This ship was fun, I love history so being able to step back in time was incredible, the design is similar to the old white star lines (titanic) which where built 10 or 20 years before this ship. It gave a good idea of what a ship back then would be like.
The tickets are cheap and the wait was not bad, so there's very little reason to not visit this amazing piece of history. The interior is restored tastefully and it does feel like you're witnessing close to its original state as possible. The signs and displays are informative and accomodate english tourists as well,

Yokohama|Climb aboard Hikawa Maru to explore the cruise scenery of the Japan-Seattle route nearly a hundred years ago
This is the only remaining passenger and cargo ship built before the war in Japan and an important cultural property of Japan. It is now moored in Yokohama Port and has become a maritime museum.
Nearly a hundred years ago, it carried important passenger and freight transportation needs of Yokohama and Seattle. From the restaurant, guest rooms and cruise ship interior, we can get a glimpse of the scene of tourists flocking nearly a hundred years ago.
It was the most advanced ship at the time. It carried refugees persecuted by the Nazis to the United States and Canada, and also served as a medical ship during World War II.
There are seats on the deck where you can bask in the warm sun and look out over the bustling Yokohama a hundred years later.

Ocean Liner Museum
This is a very amusing activity when in Yokohama. The Hikawa Maru is magnificent landmark symbolic to japan's maritime history. The ocean liner is now a museum. It is quite well kept and fascinating.
I paid 500 yen towards entry and it was absolutely worth it. I remember reading somewhere that this ship and experience was amongst Charlie chaplin's favourite. The museum allows you to explore all thenropms, captains cabin, dining area and decorative spaces overboard that elude eleegance.
One can only imagine what it must have been like back in days for people who went sailing on this beauty. I enjoyed the experience of exploring the hikawa Maru. If you are coming to yokohama, do consider seeing this beautiful ship.

Hikawamaru is a cargo and passenger ship constructed in 1930. During World War II, it was used as a government impress ship and a special hospital ship for the navy. It resumed its original role as a cargo and passenger ship in 1947 and returned to the Seattle Water Route in 1953. It retired in 1960. Visitors can tour the Art Deco-style dining room, the special guest rooms and other rooms were renovated based on the resources of the prewar days when the ship navigated on the Seattle Water Route. The stormy history of Hikawamaru is also displayed.
In 2024, I want to come back here again.

NYK Hikawa Maru
We saw this ship while walking around the park and decided to visit it. Tickets are not that expensive. The ship is very well preserved and maintained. Everything is explained in english also.
The view of Yokohama from the ship is also nice.
Had a fantastic time visiting this historical ship. Arguably the most famous luxury ship of its time to ply the route connecting Yokohama, Japan to Seattle, United States.
Was truly enamored by the colorful history of the ship - from a high end luxury ship sailing across the seven seas to being conscripted into the military services carrying and tending wounded soldiers. And spending its retirement days in the dock of Yokohama as a floating restaurant and event venue.
A visit to the ship lets you view the various sections of the ship from during its heydays. From the high end dining areas, accommodations of guests and crews, the engine room to the bridge of the ship, everything was well kept and maintained. You could stroll along the deck of the ship or climb up to the bridge to have some beautiful views of the Yokohama dock and surrounding area.
There is a gallery portraying the chronological events and key moments of the ship as well as heart felt notes left by people whose lives have crossed path with the ship in one way or another.
