"Bamberg" in the rain·Germany's ancient city 5
Arriving in the light rain, the long-awaited German tourist destination "Bamberg", I felt a little depressed. Maybe my expectations were too high. Without the blue sky and white clouds, the colors of the small town were not so bright, and tourists could not be seen leisurely strolling around. Although the sky seemed to be a little brighter after the light rain stopped, there was no glow in the evening. Due to the weather, it gets dark early and light up late, and time passes imperceptibly. Bamberg is an entire city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The narrow gravel roads that have been preserved to this day lead you to every corner of the town. Most of the roads can only be passed in one direction. Perhaps in ancient times, horse carriages were only used by nobles and did not need too wide roads. The city is built on mountains and rivers, with undulating terrain, water and aura, making it suitable for enjoying the beautiful scenery of the city and taking photos.
The most representative building probably belongs to the old municipal building Altes Rathaus). The building is on an island between two bridges on the river. It looks like it is on the bridge. The Gothic building from 1462 has existed for 800 years. The building It seems that part of it is hanging over the river outside the foundation. Her outer wall can be admired from a bridge next door. The passage in the middle is still in use today. When people pass by, it feels like walking through a city gate. The Baroque tower was built later and now houses some exhibits, which are time-limited and require admission. Bamberg Cathedral has a long history, dating back more than a thousand years. Of course, it has been rebuilt and restored later, and the interior is gorgeous. Because I am not familiar with the historical stories of Christianity, I did not stay too long. The New Palace is a block not far from the river. It is currently under renovation but can be visited. It is adjacent to the History Museum. It is an interesting place for tourists who like to delve into historical stories.
The small city was built on seven hills. I wonder if it was built on seven hills in imitation of the Roman city? Therefore, Bamberg is also known as "Rome of Franconia". There is a building with green door and window frames in the city that is the most famous local specialty "smoked beer" bar. As for whether it tastes good? What you hear are all opinions, and everyone has different feelings, but most tourists choose to take a break and have a drink here. Take the opportunity to use the restroom, and of course you can visit without drinking. There are many restaurants by the river. If you stay here, it will be relatively quiet after the day trippers have retreated during dinner. I didn’t find any special meals, but the steak with potato balls tastes good. The most important thing is that it is very cheap. Come and have a glass of draft beer while doing so. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery around you while eating and drinking.
There are two rivers passing through the city of Bamberg, the natural Regnitz River and the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal. It can be seen that when the city was founded more than 1,000 years ago, the locals had used canals to connect several large rivers in the territory, which can be used for navigation and adjustment. Water irrigation, today we can still see countless bridges connecting the roads in the city, and there are dams, sluices and other water conservancy facilities in the river to regulate the water level. The entire city is built around these two rivers. The famous Little Venice and the Old City Hall are built along the river. There are typical German-style buildings on both sides of the river, which are pleasing to the eye and beautiful.
Next to the old city hall, you can see the old port. There are also small cruise ships on the pier. I don’t know if it’s the wrong season, it’s closed, or it’s a work boat. But there were two small mechanical hand-cranked cranes on the pier that caught my attention. Judging from the years when the crane fuselage was cast, they were 1849 and 1864 respectively, which is almost 200 years ago. Judging from the maintenance and wear and tear of the mechanical transmission part, It should still be usable, which makes me, a mechanical student, in awe. After experiencing countless wars, especially World War I and World War II, to be able to maintain this state, I have to admire the meticulous management and dedication of the Germans.
The hotel is located in the central area of the small town, near Little Venice and the Old Town Hall, Hotel Weierich. The appearance of the house is not much different from other buildings in the old town. I accidentally saw a tour guide taking tourists to the hotel. On the side, what was being explained, my curiosity made me notice that there is a spring under the house. You can come into contact with the spring by walking down an inconspicuous staircase. You can still see people fetching water. The mark on the wall is 1554. It goes without saying that the hotel is An old building with history. Although the room has been renovated, its age can still be felt.
Most of the ancient neighborhoods are between two rivers. It takes two or three hours to walk around the main scenic spots, but of course you can't delve into the stories behind the buildings. Due to the weather, I was not in high spirits, so I ended my trip to Bamberg reluctantly. I hope you have good weather when you go and you will have a great harvest.
