💞Recommended reasons: The city is small overall, making it easy to explore. Nearby, there are stylish vintage shops and plenty of cafes! My favorite point is definitely the cheap food. Since it's more rural than Warsaw, the cost of living is lower, so buying souvenirs, eating out, and paying for tickets are all slightly cheaper than in Japan. You can fully enjoy the European atmosphere without worrying too much about money. Hotels are also affordable, costing around 2,000 to 3,000 yen per night for one person. It's a place I highly recommend for university students!

#fallcolors Autumn in Poland was a magical experience! I spent most of my time in Kraków, where the streets of the Old Town looked even more charming with the trees turning shades of gold and red. Walking around Rynek Główny, the largest medieval square in Europe, is free, and the colorful autumn backdrop made it feel like I’d stepped into a fairytale. I also took a trip to Zakopane, nestled in the Tatra Mountains. The hiking trails were covered in fallen leaves, making the scenery absolutely breathtaking. Entry to the Tatra National Park is about 6 PLN (€1.50), and it’s worth every bit for the stunning views. St. Mary's Basilica is one of the most important churches in Kraków, second only to the Wawel Cathedral within the royal castle. Built on the foundations of a late 13th-century Romanesque church, it was completed around 1320 as a Gothic cathedral. Over the years, both the interior and exterior have undergone numerous renovations and modifications to become the structure we see today, including its most iconic feature: the unequal twin towers. 📜Legend of the Towers: The north tower stands at 82 meters, significantly taller than the 69-meter south tower. The purpose was to allow the north tower, serving as the city's watchtower, to observe enemy attacks without obstruction. However, there is an interesting legend associated with this. It is said that during the construction of the twin towers, the best craftsmen brothers in Poland were hired, with the younger brother responsible for the north tower and the elder for the south tower. Initially, their progress was similar, but as time passed, the younger brother noticed that the south tower was higher and would be completed faster. Driven by jealousy, he killed his brother with a knife and hastily topped the south tower with a dome, making the north tower ultimately taller. Although the younger brother won in appearance, he was overwhelmed by guilt and confessed his crime on the north tower before jumping to his death. 📜Legend of the Bugle Call: As the highest point in the city, the north tower's bugle call was used daily to signal the opening and closing of the city gates and to alert of enemy invasions. Today, even without such needs, a bugler still plays the bugle at every hour. Interestingly, the bugle call abruptly stops, said to commemorate the bugler who was shot in the throat by a Tatar arrow during an invasion, causing the call to suddenly cease. St. Mary's Basilica is a must-visit in Kraków, with its towering spires and resonant bugle calls drawing attention within the ancient city. The crown atop the north tower symbolizes the Polish royal capital, evoking a sense of sorrow for the nation's tumultuous history. Poland has been partitioned multiple times, experiencing three periods of dissolution and three periods of revival. Many cultural artifacts bearing the collective memory of the nation have been lost, and even the national treasure, St. Mary's Altar, was only recovered after World War II, adding to the sense of melancholy. Among the many churches I have visited, St. Mary's Basilica stands out as particularly impressive. Although not as grand as some of the world's renowned cathedrals, its unique and splendid interior is breathtaking. The dazzling starry ceiling highlights the suspended figure of Jesus in the center of the church, a design I have never seen before. Additionally, the medieval stained glass windows of the main altar, the world's largest Gothic altarpiece, and the unique wall colors create an unforgettable scene. 🚗 Transportation: St. Mary's Basilica is located in the heart of Kraków's Old Town. The Old Town is primarily pedestrianized, and it takes about 10-15 minutes to walk from Kraków's main train station to the basilica.

In the square, there's the Sukiennice (Cloth Hall), an ornate shopping arcade with dozens of artisans selling handmade crafts that make great souvenirs to take home.Take your time to admire the 11th-century Church of St. Adalbert, the whitewashed chapel in the corner of the square and don't miss The Head, an enormous bronze sculpture that was a gift from Polish artist Igor Mitoraj. Among them, these few churches are particularly unique, each worth savoring in detail. Except for the first one, all of these churches are located on the Royal Road, making them perfect for a City walk. 🏞Route: St. Mark's Church~St. Mary's Basilica~St. Barbara's Chapel~Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi~Church of Saints Peter and Paul 1⃣St. Mark's Church (St.Mark's Church) Coming out of the ice cream shop, I was immediately attracted by this ancient medieval church. The highlight is the red brick Gothic exterior altar and the exquisitely carved wooden altar inside, which is particularly quiet It's a 'hidden gem'! 🏘Address: Św. Every hour on the hour, a trumpeter on the tower will play the trumpet, a ceremony that has continued for a thousand years. The highlights are the geometric floral glass on the altar and the eight exquisitely crafted stained glass windows, with delicate colors that are awe-inspiring. It was a trip to Krakow Old Town. We visited Wawel Castle, a historic castle residency located in central Krakow. It was the political and cultural heart of Poland during the 16th century. We went there for a quick walk and explored around. 📍Wawel 5, 31-001 Kraków We also visited Wawel Cathedral This cathedral is the coronation site of Polish monarchs and the burial place of many national heroes. 📍Wawel 3, 31-001 Kraków We then had our lunch at Pod Wawelem. I would recommend you to try Polish Platter (selection of traditional Polish dishes). The price was considered cheap and the quality of food is great. 📍Świętej Gertrudy 26-29, 31-048 Kraków We also visited the Main Market Square (Rynek Główny). The largest medieval town square in Europe, dating back to the 13th century. 📍Rynek Główny, 30-062 Kraków We also visited St. Mary's Basilica, a Gothic church famous for its wooden altarpiece carved by Veit Stoss. The place was stunning. 📍Plac Mariacki 5, 31-042 Kraków We also explored the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), a Renaissance building and a major center of international trade in the medieval period. 📍Rynek Główny 1/3, 31-042 Kraków P/s: If you are looking for a place for dinner, I would recommend you to try Szara Gęś. Out of all, my favorite was Duck breast with seasonal fruits. It was really good and I will definitely recommend to you try ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📍Rynek Główny 17, 31-008 Kraków We also explored the Kazimierz District. The historic Jewish quarter of Krakow, known for its rich cultural heritage. Aside from this, we also visited Old Synagogue. The oldest surviving synagogue in Poland. It is now a museum which I found it very unique and interesting. 📍Szeroka 24, 31-053 Kraków We also explored theSchindler's Factory Museum, a museum dedicated to the wartime experiences of Oskar Schindler and the Jews he saved. 📍Lipowa 4, 30-702 Kraków If you’re a museum lover like me, you can check Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum out! It is the largest of the Nazi concentration and extermination camps, a solemn reminder of the Holocaust. The Polish Aviation Museum (Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego w Krakowie) is a large museum of historic aircraft and aircraft engines in Kraków, Poland. It is located at the site of the no-longer functional Kraków-Rakowice-Czyżyny Airport. This airfield, established by Austria-Hungary in 1912, is one of the oldest in the world. The museum opened in 1964, after the airfield closed in 1963. Has been scored as eighth world's best aviation museum by CNN. For the first half century of its existence the museum used four hangars of the former airfield to display its exhibits. These buildings were not originally designed for this purpose and suffered from various inadequacies, notably insufficient heating in winter. The situation improved when a new main building for the museum opened on 18 September 2010. The collection consists of over 200 aircraft. Several of the aircraft displayed are unique on the world scale, including sailplanes and some 100 aircraft engines. Some of the exhibits are only in their initial stages. Planty is one of the largest city parks in Kraków, Poland. It encircles the Stare Miasto (Old Town), where the Medieval city walls used to stand until the early 19th century. The historic Old Town is not to be confused with the Administrative District No. 1 Stare Miasto extending further east. The park has an area of 21 ha (52 acres) and a length of 4 km (2.5 mi).It consists of a chain of thirty smaller gardens designed in varied styles and adorned with numerous monuments and fountains. There are over twenty statues of noble historical figures in the park including monuments to Nicolaus Copernicus, Jan Matejko, Queen Jadwiga and King Wladyslaw II Jagiello. There are also several plaques in the park commemorating, among others, Jan Dlugosz and Stanislaw Wyspianski. The park forms a scenic walkway popular with Cracovians. In summer, sprinkled with ponds and refreshment stalls, it is a cool and shady retreat from the nearby bustling streets. Most historic sites of the old Kraków are located inside the Planty-park-belt along the Royal Road (Polish: Droga Królewska) crossing the park from the medieval suburb of Kleparz – through Florian Gate – at the northern flank of the old city walls. The Main Square is a square space surrounded by historic townhouses (kamienice) and churches. The center of the square is dominated by the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), rebuilt in 1555 in the Renaissance style, topped by a beautiful attic or Polish parapet decorated with carved masks. On one side of the cloth hall is the Town Hall Tower (Wieża ratuszowa), on the other the 11th century Church of St. Adalbert and 1898 Adam Mickiewicz Monument. Today I visited the Polish aviation museum in Krakow! it is one of the city's most underrated locations and highly worth a visit! Entry is free on Tuesday so today was a perfect time to visit. Inside you will find lots of cold war era aircraft, as well as British and Swedish jets that used to be operated by Poland. New renovations have recently been made that now house permanent exhibitions from the First World war. #krakow #poland

Krakow is known for its authentic Old Town in a typical Polish form. The Old Town isn't too big and you can easily wander it's little streets in the morning. Again, there aren't many people in the morning but as the day progresses there's more people. Head over to the castle on the hill for a lovely visit as well as having a birds eye view of the city. The city also boasts various bridges and offer nice views from the river. 4 nights in this gorgeous city wasn't enough. we definitely needed longer to explore. We stayed in the middle of the city, so we were never short for places to eat out or go for a few drinks. If you are staying in the centre, it may be worth checking prices and times for a bus/train to and from the airport, as our taxi cost around £35. we thought this was a bit pricey but we paid for the convenience. Before we arrived we had booked a pub crawl for £15 which saved us a lot of money but you can find offers like the one we booked, all over the city centre. The local food was fantastic and varied. When you travel to another country, one of the research you have is what you are gonna eat there. You always google the traditional food of each country. This is what I have done in Krakow. I have tried a various of dishes and I loved them all! 1. Before have a walk in town, we decided to buy a obwarzanek (polish bagel or bread ring). You tried three different flavours.😍 2. In old town we found little markets with souvenirs and traditional food. So, we tried Kielbasa (polish sausage) and pierogies (traditional polish dumpling) . Each was so delicious!! 😍😍 3. We visited a traditional restaurant, where we meet local people and they told as some of the best traditional dishes. These were Kotlet Schabowy (similar to schnitzel) , pork with baked potatoes and a red soup with chicken. Red soup was a dish that I did not really like it because of the fact that in Greece we are used to eating soup with rice. The restaurant named Kuchnia u Doroty. 4. Last, what you need after lunch?? DESSERT😍😍 We tried two different kinds of dessert at lajkonik. I think Krakow is one of these destinations!🤍 We had a full day to explore Krakow and honestly we visited many buildings and it was a day full of sightseeing! 😍 More specifically, we booked tickets from Athens to Katowice, as we were not able to find direct flight tickets to Krakow. We arrived in Katowice on Friday night and we start our exploration to Krakow on Saturday (early in the morning)😍 We started with an energizing breakfast and then we have a fuuuuull day to explore Krakow! 😍😊 Then we have a walk at Krakow square (Ruben Glowny), which is one of the biggest squares! I really loved it! 😍 You will find the St Mary’s Basilica, where you should visit it inside. You will not believe but this instagramable post is Starbucks cafe in Krakow! 😍 When I arrived in Krakow I was searching for cafe to have breakfast and hot chocolate. As I was walking, I saw this beautiful shop of Starbucks cafe and I decided to visit it🤭 I ordered a sandwich and a hot medium chocolate and my boyfriend too. For this breakfast we paid 13€ (we paid in PLN). I recommend you to have breakfast in Starbucks and do not take it away, due to the fact that the shop inside is so beautiful and minimal. You will have a great view of the city, as you can see in my photos🤍 Last, if you visit Krakow with flix bus,Starbucks are very close to the station.😉 **We did not find a shop where you can pay in euro, so I recommend you to exchange your money to PLN (the polish money). Do you believe in fairytales? If yes, you should visit the Wawel Castle in Krakow! One of the most beautiful sights in Krakow and you should not miss the chance to visit it! You can have a walk outside for free, otherwise you can go inside the castle and the ticket costs about 6€-7€. You will love it! There is a story behind the building and I recommend you to read it before you visit the castle.😍 As you head to the castle, you will see a magnificent view of the town (in your left hand)! I can’t describe you how beautiful it is! Visited the amazing Wieliczka salt mines during our time in Krakow! We learnt so much about its history from our guide, and were amazed by the complex and beautiful salt sculptures all over. We were also very impressed that the miners even built their own chapels inside! We learnt that the chapels are entirely made of salt instead of wood to prevent any fires from happening as the miners would carry lamps around. #saltmines #krakow
