Ouchi-juku: A charming old village
Amidst the mountains in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, lies a small village that looks like it came out of a painting: Ouchi-juku (大内宿 Ouchi-juku). When you enter Ouchi-juku, it's like you've traveled back in time. These old houses have been renovated into shops, restaurants, and traditional inns (minshuku). A must-see viewpoint
At the end of the main street, there are stone steps leading up to Takakura Jinja Shrine. Although it's quite a steep climb, once you reach the top, you'll be greeted by a beautiful view of the village.

This is how it looked in late February two years ago.
I planned a trip to Fukushima because I wanted to see snowy Ouchijuku.
I had imagined the snow falling steadily and piling up on the thatched roofs, but the temperature rose that day and it had melted quite a bit and become sticky.
Still, the snow-covered roofs from the observation deck were beautiful.
▶️The observation deck, located at the very back of the village, offers a panoramic view of Ouchijuku
The footing was poor on the way to the observation deck, so it was easy to slip.
Next to the observation deck stands the small thatched Koyasu Kannon Hall.
