Amidst the mountains in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, lies a small village that looks like it came out of a painting: Ouchi-juku (大内宿 Ouchi-juku). When you enter Ouchi-juku, it's like you've traveled back in time. These old houses have been renovated into shops, restaurants, and traditional inns (minshuku). A must-see viewpoint At the end of the main street, there are stone steps leading up to Takakura Jinja Shrine. I planned a trip to Fukushima because I wanted to see snowy Ouchijuku. I had imagined the snow falling steadily and piling up on the thatched roofs, but the temperature rose that day and it had melted quite a bit and become sticky. Still, the snow-covered roofs from the observation deck were beautiful. ▶️The observation deck, located at the very back of the village, offers a panoramic view of Ouchijuku The footing was poor on the way to the observation deck, so it was easy to slip.
