Natural scenery
The park spans Gunma, Tochigi, Fukushima, and Niigata, and is characterized by the beautiful scenery intertwined with the mountains surrounding Ozehara and Osenuma. It has faced the crisis of being "exploited" many times, but thanks to the efforts of all parties, the precious natural features have been preserved, and it has the reputation of "the origin of the Japanese nature conservation movement".

[Oze🏔️] Japan's largest mountain wetland!
Hello everyone!
This time I'd like to tell you about my mountain climbing trip to Oze!
Oze spans four prefectures: Fukushima, Tochigi, Gunma, and Niigata, and is also famous for having Japan's largest mountain wetland!
The mountain climbing course had some very steep sections and was not well-maintained in places, but the hiking trail was made to be very easy to walk on!
The wetlands that cover the area are breathtaking, so be sure to visit Oze and try hiking there!

Oze Day Hike Fighting Horseflies
In early August, the temperature in Oze was a maximum of 27 degrees in the midst of the scorching heat in Tokyo.
We were blessed with good weather and it was perfect for hiking☀️
I think we enjoyed Oze enough for a day trip🏃
▪️Itinerary (day trip)
7:15 Depart Shinjuku Board the bus
10:30 Arrive Oze Tokura Transfer to the bus
11:15 Arrive Hatomachi Pass Hike along the route in the fourth photo
16:30 Depart Hatomachi Pass
17:30 Arrive Numata Station Eat at JR Takasaki and take the Shinkansen home
▪️Thoughts on each point
We only had about 5 hours to hike Oze, so we headed there at a quick pace.
From Hatomachi Pass to Yama no Hana, we walked along the well-maintained mountain path. We enjoyed nature while listening to the murmuring of the river.
After passing through here, we entered the marshland. The land suddenly opened up, and the marshland spread out before our eyes. This is what we wanted to see! I got excited.
There are no trees around, so the sun shines on me all at once, but the temperature is not that high, so I can walk while wearing long sleeves to protect myself from sunburn.
From here, I hiked for about 3 hours in the order of Ushikubi Junction → Ryugujo Crossroad → Yoppi Suspension Bridge. There were many benches along the way, so I was able to take a rest and have a light meal while I went 🍙
Then, when I went around the marsh and all that was left to do was to return to Hatomachi Pass. I began to feel the fear of the horseflies that were making a loud noise and passing by my ears. .
I had felt that there were a few of them up to this point, but when I started to pay attention to them, I was very scared. I am very bad with bugs, so I desperately resisted the horseflies to keep them away as I made my way home. .
If you are bad with bugs and plan to visit in the summer, I recommend that you take proper precautions.
After safely arriving at Hatomachi Pass and getting on the last bus, the last bus had already passed, so the driver took me to Numata Station. (Of course, I paid extra.)
On the way back, I stopped off for pasta in Takasaki and returned home full.
It's a great way to get some exercise, and it's easy to get to from the city center, so be sure to give it a try!

Located 150 kilometers north of Tokyo, Oze National Park is one of the closest national parks to the capital. The national park is a wonderful hiking destination centered around a large highland marshland, the Ozegahara Marsh.
Much of Oze remains snow-covered into May, but from late May to early June, the hiking season starts with a highlight: the blooming of the mizubasho flowers, known in English under the rather unfortunate name of skunk cabbage. The past winter saw more snow than usual, and the timing of the flowers was slightly delayed compared to the average year.

Japan’s largest plateau wetland|Oze

Ozenuma is located on the east side of the park and has stunning views of Mt. The lake and adjacent wetlands were formed because the rivers in the area were sealed by magma.
Two of the most popular local trails
✅One line starts at Hatotai Pass (near Ozehara)
✅The other one starts from Oshimizu (near Ozenuma)
From these two locations, it takes about an hour to reach Ozehara
There are elevated wooden planks around it. A very comfortable and easy hiking route.
transportation:
Approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes by bus from Numata Station
