Construction of the Palermo Cathedral began in 1184, combining various architectural styles, Gothic and Spanish, and was not completed until after the 18th century. So, visitors can see the double-glazed windows and arches of the Gothic style, the porticoes and columns of the Catalan style, all combined. Underground Treasures display a wide variety of jewelry.

The most gorgeous cathedral in Sicily⛪️|Palermo Cathedral
#2023 Travel Wishes
The monuments around Palermo in Sicily are famous... and this main church "Palermo Cathedral" belongs to the largest church in Palermo. It is also the most important architectural monument.
Overall, the ancient atmosphere of the 18th century is preserved..and this ⛪️ also incorporates several styles, including Gothic/Spanish architectural features/Sicilian Norman style..
🌟🌟Recommend the beautiful church that you must visit in Sicily⛪️😍😍
⛪️ Church entry is free 🆓, but if you want to visit to enter the top open air location, need to purchase additional tickets 🎫: € 7 per person
If you want to see the 360-degree night view of the entire Palermo, it is definitely recommended to purchase a ticket to the top floor of the church ⛪️ to visit 🌃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Palermo Ce
Palermo Central Cathedral Cathedral This religious complex is a collection of different architectural styles from different periods, reflecting the architectural style of Palermo.
Visitors can see Gothic double spires and arches, Catalan-style porches and columns, and mosque-style geometric patterns, all perfectly Blended together. Inside is a Norman-style semi-circular hall, the cemetery of the Norman royal family. The underground treasures show a wide variety of jewellery, all belonging to Queen Costa of Aragon.

The Palermo Cathedral: A Testament to Cultural Tolerance
The Palermo Cathedral, dedicated to the 'Assumption of the Virgin Mary,' is a UNESCO World Heritage site that embodies Palermo's complex history through its Arab-Norman architectural style.
Compared to its grand exterior, which combines the dynamism and complexity of Islamic, Latin, and Byzantine cultures, the interior of the cathedral feels rather simple and modest.
The entrance of the cathedral is adorned with Quranic inscriptions, reminding visitors that this place was once a mosque during the Islamic Empire's rule.
Throughout its long history, it has been a revered sacred site, showcasing the exotic charm of Palermo Cathedral and highlighting the city's tolerance towards different cultures.

Palermo Cathedral in Sicily 🍋
#0yentravelJanuary2025
It's a huge building that you can't fit it all in a photo! It's a group of buildings with different architectural styles from different periods lined up, and was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2015👀The dry colors typical of Southern Italy are mixed with Arabic and Norman styles, so you'll never get bored of the look✨
If you visit, we recommend climbing to the roof! It costs about 5€, but you can see the whole city of Palermo, which is spectacular✨

Go see the night view of Palermo Cathedral
#AutumnHo-cationEvent The night view of Palermo Cathedral is truly overwhelming. In particular, the cathedral's detailed decorations and towers stand out even more against the night sky, giving a mysterious feeling as if time has stopped. The tranquility and historical depth you can feel while touring the cathedral in a quiet evening is a must-experience, so I recommend it.

A Majestic Fusion of History and Architecture at Palermo Cathedral
#italytrip
The Palermo Cathedral stands as a breathtaking example of the architectural and cultural fusion that defines the city. Built in 1185, the cathedral has been shaped by centuries of influences, including Norman, Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles. As you approach the imposing façade, you’ll be struck by its unique blend of elements: intricate Arab-inspired arches, grand Gothic towers, and elegant Baroque domes. Inside, the cathedral holds treasures such as royal tombs, a precious collection of relics, and a 13th-century silver urn that contains the relics of St. Rosalia, the city’s patron saint. The crypt is also worth visiting, as it houses sarcophagi of Norman kings. Don’t miss the chance to climb to the rooftop for a panoramic view of Palermo’s vibrant cityscape. A visit to the Palermo Cathedral is an unforgettable journey through centuries of history and art, perfectly embodying the city’s diverse heritage.

Italy Travel | Sacred Space of Sicily - Palermo Cathedral
Palermo Cathedral, Sicily, Italy 🇮🇹
The Palermo Cathedral was founded in 1185 AD, and the Anglo-Norman Archbishop of Palermo and Minister Walter Ophamil (or Walter Milt) of King William II built this cathedral.
Later, after the Saracens conquered the city, they turned it into a mosque. It was again converted into a cathedral in the Middle Ages, with only some smaller Arab architectural elements surviving today.
The neoclassical style of the church today can be traced back to the twenty years from 1781 to 1801. It was a renovation plan executed by Ferdinando Fuga and Giuseppe Venanzio Marvuglia, and it continued until the 19th century.
The large dome at the top of the main building and the smaller domes and murals covering the aisle ceilings were completed during this period. The top offers a panoramic view of the World Heritage - the blocks of the historic city of Palermo.

Palermo, Sicily
#外游
The beauty of Palermo, the ancient city of Sicily, exceeded my expectations. Its beauty is neither stunning nor elegant, but a very real sense of life. It feels a bit like the people of Palermo are living in the prosperity of the past, which is a wonderful feeling.
In Palermo, which is full of historical charm, every street corner is filled with music and laughter at night. People gathered in the streets and squares, talking loudly, drinking and singing, and stayed up all night~~~
Friends who live here told me that as soon as Wednesdays and Thursdays come, people in Palermo start taking to the streets to celebrate the weekend together. The main church of Palermo is a beautiful building that should not be missed. Be sure to visit and take a look. In addition, there are also many historical buildings in the city that are amazing.
🔶Fontana Pretoria🔶
The very gorgeous and giant fountain Fontana Pretoria is really beautiful! ! At night, the spotlights are on next to the fountain, giving it a different kind of beauty. 💛
There are many statues around the fountain. The fountain built in 1554 was originally placed in a private garden in Florence. In 1581, the government of Palermo bought it and placed it in front of a palace in the main square.
At that time, a group of devout believers could not accept the multiple naked statues next to the fountain, so the fountain was also called the "Fountain of Shame"
🔶Quattro Canti 🔶
This place is very special💛The three-story building in the photo (with a statue on each of the upper two floors and a fountain on the lower floor) is actually located at a crossroads.
The four corners of the intersection have the same architectural design. The purpose of this crossroad is to divide the ancient city into four major areas. ~ Very thoughtful design.
🔶Chiesa di San Cataldo🔶
Palermo has been ruled by many countries, including the Arab Emirates and the Norman Kingdom, so some buildings also have a Middle Eastern flavor.
Just like the church Chiesa di San Cataldo, the three red domes are very Norman style.
