Since I am from Hong Kong, I did not go all tourist mode when visiting Peng Chau. I skipped all the temples and beaches, and spent my day visiting cafes, the leather factory and the outdoor art installations in the junkyard on Wing On Street. Up until the Japanese Occupation, Peng Chau used had a booming leather business. Thankfully, the factory site was not demolished. At the front of the factory site, you can find loads of coffee shops and other retail outlets; and at the back, there is a massive outdoor junkyard installation. It is definitely worthwhile paying a visit. On Saturday, I went to Ping Chau, an outlying island of Hong Kong, with my friends and had a comfortable and peaceful day trip. Ping Chau is a small island with not too many people. Ping Chau Secret Garden is located in a very hidden alley on Wing On Street in Ping Chau. It was formerly a cowhide factory opened in the 1930s. Later, it closed down due to the decline of the industry. In 2010, it was listed as a Grade 3 historical monument by the Antiquities and Monuments Office and then revitalized into a "Secret Garden". What a wonderful day trip in Peng Chau! Although a small island, there were lots of things to see such as that cute artsy junk yard, lots of cafes to try out, and most importantly nice quiet beaches to chill at.

Every 21st day of the seventh lunar month Peng Chau will hold a parade with the scenery of the village meeting The whole journey takes 3-4 hours🥳 Take Tin Hau Niang to tour the whole of Peng Chau The streets and alleys are not spared🤓 The busiest thing is the Tin Hau Empress Tour on July 21. The locals call it "禡行鄉". This is the largest festival in Peng Chau. The purpose is to pray for relief from disasters and to bless everyone with peace. The outing route travels through the main communities on the island, with many residents participating . Even those who have moved to live outside try to come back. There will be children performing the lion dance and unicorn dance on that day. 🍳Island Table Grocer Cafe, a neighborhood coffee shop run by three beautiful sisters, is a must-try when looking for food on Peng Chau Island. Away from the hustle and bustle 😬 A good place to escape from the world 🥳 The coffee shop is small, can seat about a dozen people indoors, and has a small amount of outdoor seating. The interior has dried flowers, plants, all kinds of furnishings, and the restaurant is exquisite. On the way to eat, I also saw many islanders' regular customers. It was quite crowded during meal time. 🍽 Western food is made of exquisite ingredients, cooked well, and the environment and atmosphere are very good! The air conditioning is sufficient and the staff service is good. You can't miss it when you go to the island. It's close to the pier⛵️ and the transportation is convenient. 🍝Ordered spaghetti with spaghetti, cold food is super appetizing! In the Secret Garden, there is a cowhide factory that was opened in the early 1930s and is listed as a Grade III historical monument by the Antiquities Office. The cowhide factory, which was supposed to be turned into a ruin, was transformed into a revitalized art space by a Ping Chau islander, adding many more photo opportunities to the Ping Chau Secret Garden and allowing everyone to better understand the historical traces of this place. The leather factory was first opened in the early 1930s, but the industry later declined and closed down. It was listed as a Grade III historical monument by the Antiquities Office in 2010. Now it has been revitalized into a secret garden. The entrance is located on Yong'an Street. When you look up, you can see the sign of the cowhide factory and a cow horn with the words "Secret Garden" written in the corner, which is very nostalgic. Ping Chau's shape is like a Chinese character "胺", with the sunken part being East Bay; the south and north sides being called South Bay and North Bay respectively; and the "Fishing Rock" at the northeast end. There is a road connecting the island to Dali Island, where there is currently a sewage treatment plant. Finger Hill is the highest point on the island, 95 meters above sea level, and offers a distant view of Hong Kong Disneyland and Discovery Bay. To the east is Hong Kong and the Kowloon Peninsula, to the south are Lamma Island and Hei Ling Chau, to the west are Lantau Island and Discovery Bay, and to the north are the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and the Tsing Ma Bridge. There are many small shops and cafes, which is definitely a leisurely local destination.
