Perak Cave is located in the suburbs 6 kilometers north of Ipoh City. It was built by a Chinese monk in 1926. The cave is built on the mountain and is about 122 meters long. It is a limestone cave. Legend has it that the monk found the cave when he passed by and meditated in it for 20 years until he died in the cave. In the main cave, there is a sitting statue of Sakyamuni, and there are 40 Buddha statues. There are more than 100 murals on the cliff walls, including the eighteen arhats and the Tang Sanzang pictures of pilgrimages from the West.

Perak Cave Tample
We really enjoyed this cave. It is free parking and free entry. There is free tea and chairs to sit inside the cave to enjoy the cool from the heat outside. There are different parts of the cave you can visit with multiple shrines & there is also over 300 steps up to the top for a variety of different view points over Ipoh.
Incredible cave temple. Never been to a Buddhist temple with paintings on the walls like this. So beautiful.

Amazing and beautiful caves, also a Chinese Buddhist temple, certainly worth a visit. A climb to uphill, which is beautiful. Some murals are really good. Aside from the cave you can climb the stairs to the top of the hill to have some good views of Ipoh. 🥰✨

Temple inside the Cave
There are several temples in the Cave, and Perak Cave Temple is one of my Favourite. The location is easy to reach with car park facilities.
The ambience is very nice, soothing and beautiful. Lay on the side of the lime stone, the beautiful pond in front of the temple with a statue of Avolokitesvara is welcoming everyone to visit this temple.
The are several dogs residents in this temple and like to catch the monkeys around the temple.
The Cave is huge with big Buddha statue at the main entrance, and inside another few Buddha statues, including Avolokitesvara statue as well. Public can do donation by light the lotus flower candle or just drop into the donation box, and the guy will ring the big bell.

Most famous iPoh cave temple
Perak Tong cave temple or Perak Tong (霹雳洞) as the locals fondly call it, is a main attraction in Ipoh!
Out of more than 20 or so Ipoh cave temples, Perak Cave Temple is one of the most well-known. And many visitors make it a point to visit this temple for its marvelous architecture and hilltop views!
Perak Cave Temple sits by the side of a main road (Tasek Road) under the shadow of Gunung Tasek and is accessible from town. The temple is open every day. If you want to make the climb to the hilltop pavilion, it’s best to go early in the morning to avoid the heat.
And they do not allow anyone to climb up after 4pm!
Depending on how interesting you find the temple, you can spend 30 minutes up to an hour here!

What a beautiful temple, a must see when in Ipoh
I've seen my share of temples while travelling through SE Asia but this is definitely one of my favourites! The caves are beautiful inside with paintings on the walls and deities around them. The cave itself is very impressive.
We climbed up to the top but for us it was quite steep with young children but it was definitely worth it. It was beautiful and very impressive.

1. Origin of Ipoh
The name of Ipoh comes from the language of the local Malay indigenous people, the Orang Asli Perak, and is said to come from "Epu", which means a local tree. In addition, there is also a saying that the name "Ipoh" comes from the Malay word "Ipo", which refers to the common "Ipoh tree" (Pokok Ipoh) in the area. The sap of this tree can be used to make poison arrows.
2. Chinese culture in Ipoh
Ipoh has a large number of Chinese residents, mainly from Guangdong (Hakka, Cantonese) and Fujian. The local Chinese culture is profound and Cantonese is one of the main common languages. This is also the location of Malaysia's famous "Second Wife Lane" and "Third Wife Lane". It was once a residential area purchased by wealthy Chinese businessmen for their wives and concubines, and has now become a historical attraction.
3. Ipoh’s Food
Ipoh is known as **“Food Paradise”** and is famous for its unique Chinese snacks. Representative local delicacies include:
• Ipoh Bean Sprout Chicken (Nga Choy Gai): white-cut chicken with fresh bean sprouts and chicken oil rice.
• Ipoh White Coffee: A traditional local coffee made from specially roasted beans with a rich, milky taste.
• Salt-baked chicken: Salt-baked chicken makes the meat tender and smooth.
• Hor Fun: Made with local spring water from Ipoh, it has a particularly smooth texture, such as “Chicken Hor Fun” and “Curry Hor Fun”.
4. Natural landscape and tourism
Ipoh is surrounded by a wealth of limestone caves and natural landscapes:
• Perak Cave Temple: A Chinese Buddhist temple built in a limestone cave with spectacular Buddha statues and murals.
• Kek Lok Tong: A scenic cave temple with natural stalactites and lakes inside.
• Qing Xin Ling: A retro tourist attraction that combines lakes, traditional Chinese architecture and natural scenery.
This is also the hometown of Chinese-American Michelle Yeoh!

Hidden gems in Malaysia 🏴☠️
#ipohtrip
If you even consider to visit some hidden attractions in Malaysia other than the famous Kuala Lumpur, Penang or Sabah, Ipoh can be a great place for you to explore!! Not a super fancy big city but it is a small cute town embayed in mountains.
For the 2-3 days trips, do not miss out the Perak Cave Temple as this is where you can climb up the temple to overlook the town view and Kek Lok Toong with the god statues inside the caves plus the paradise in the back mountain for you to chill and enjoy the boat riding. Not to mention there are some good cafe such as the Harry Potter themed platform cafe and some small small hidden cafe that offering good coffees and pastries.
In term of the stay, The Heaven Suite is definitely the top 1 in my list as it offers more than just a hotel room. Swimming pool is the highlight because it just literally facing the majestic mountain view in front!! If you even have more budget for the trip, Banjaran Hotsping can be a good option considering the hot spring is available inside the hotel as well as the cave restaurant could provide you a memorable experience like once in a life time!!
Not far from Ipoh, Sitiawan is somewhere you can pass by as well!! I am sure that the Tua Pek Temple that located there will amaze!!

Perak Cave Temple
#malaysiatrip
Perak, specifically Ipoh, is renowned for its caves, many of which have been transformed into religious temples. During my recent visit to Perak Cave, I was just as impressed as I was when I first visited at the age of 15. If you find yourself in Ipoh, don't miss the chance to experience this remarkable temple.
Highly recommended place to visit! Astonishing view everywhere, from the cave to the trekking trail. The view from the top is worth it. Stairs are really steep near the top so be really careful when climbing/descending. It took me a comfortable 1 hour to go up and down.

Planned our trip to Ipoh over the weekend and stopped by the temple for a visit. This place is just by the roadside and can be easily accessed.
Come to our surprise that it was not crowded and it was chilly inside the temple, as it is in a cave.
Would recommend to drop by this place as a start before move on to the next beautiful cave in Ipoh.
Psst! Weather is getting hot and please prepare umbrella!
