Day trip to Montepulciano 🇮🇹
#italytrip
Montepulciano was an absolute highlight of my Tuscany trip! This hilltop town is straight out of a postcard, with its winding cobblestone streets and breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside 🌄🍷. We didn't need to pay any entrance fee to explore the town itself, which was great. Just walking through the historic center felt like wandering through a movie set, especially with all the Renaissance architecture.
First stop was the Piazza Grande, where the impressive Palazzo Comunale offers a fantastic view if you're willing to climb the tower – totally worth the small fee for the panorama at the top! After taking in the sights, we visited a couple of the underground wine cellars like Cantina de' Ricci. Entry was free, but we couldn’t resist buying a bottle (or two) of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 🍷. The wine tastings were incredible and offered a real taste of the region's heritage.
We took a short stroll down to the Temple of San Biagio, about a 15-minute walk from the town center. The entrance was €3, and the serene setting with its Renaissance architecture is a peaceful escape from the busy streets. For lunch, we found a cozy trattoria overlooking the countryside and enjoyed some of the best pasta and local cheese I've ever had 🍝🧀.
Montepulciano is perfect for a day trip full of culture, history, and of course, amazing wine. I can't recommend it enough!
