The POLA Art Museum displays the collections carefully collected by the former president of the Polaroid Group, Suzuki Changji. It is mainly composed of impressionist works such as Monet and Renoir. It displays Japanese Western paintings, Japanese paintings, prints, sculptures, Oriental ceramics, Japan's modern and modern ceramics, glass crafts, cosmetic tools of ancient and modern things, etc., have a wide range of exhibitions, and it is a very attractive art museum.
This is a peaceful modern art museum in the forest of Hakone. We were lucky enough to see Picasso's paintings from his Blue Period on display (no photography allowed). It was the first time I saw Picasso's works from this period. They were soft and quiet, different from his world-famous Cubist style.
We drove there and there is a parking lot attached to the museum. The museum is surrounded by forests and you have to drive a long way from the entrance. The exterior of the museum is made of glass. I later learned that it was designed with the concept of "letting Hakone's nature and art coexist." There is a forest trail around the museum with art installations along the trail. I really like the harmonious feeling of being surrounded by nature and art. If you go there, be sure to take some time to stroll in the woods.
The restaurant on the first floor of the museum will offer limited-time themed menus based on special exhibitions held in the museum. There is a cafe downstairs where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery while dining in front of the large glass windows. But we had other trips that we hadn’t sat down to experience.
Hakone's hot springs are very famous. It is recommended to arrange a night's stay. After soaking in the hot springs, it is quite enjoyable to walk to the art museum early in the morning. The hotel we stayed in this time is a bit far from the art museum in the direction of Kowakudani. The nearest hot spring accommodation is Sengokuhara, which you may consider if you want to go there.

A 2-day, 1-night plan to fully enjoy Hakone
Girls trip to Hakone
I stayed at Hotel Indigo 🥹
After checking in, I spent a lot of time relaxing in the bath ♨
The meat was juicy and delicious.
The smell of the firewood was distinctive!!
As for sightseeing, I arrived at Hakone-Yumoto Station at 11:30 and made a plan to visit two places before checking in and two places after checking out, but it was quite a tight schedule.
Hakone has a lot of art and each one has a lot to see.
I bought a free pass to get around, so I used the bus and train!
Transportation costs in Hakone are surprisingly high, so I think it was a good idea to get a free pass◎
By the way, the hotel we stayed at had a free shuttle service, and they would take us to Gora Station, the Hakone Open-Air Museum, and the Hakone Museum of Art for free🚗
It was very convenient◎

Introducing the Pola Museum of Art, a museum with a large collection of modern Western art ◎
The Pola Museum of Art opened in 2002 with the concept of "coexistence of Hakone's nature and art". You can see mainly the collection owned by the president of Pola 🎨
The light coming in through the glass ceiling and the natural scenery reflected through the glass 🍃 From the moment you enter the entrance, you will be overwhelmed by the harmonious artistry ◎
This time, we visited the permanent exhibition and the attached cafe.
The permanent exhibition is a great space for fans of Western paintings. You can see a wide range of works, from Impressionist works to modern works!
The attached cafe has tables lined up behind panoramic windows, so you can enjoy lunch or cafe time while feeling the refreshing sunlight and nature☀️
After looking at the art, you can take a walk in the forest on the outdoor "Forest Promenade"💭

Pola Museum of Art in Hakone
#2024wish
This is a modern style museum with a great architectural building, restaurant, shop and well presented art including an outdoor nature walk. The core of the museum holdings are western impressionist art. The permanent collection is limited in size but the museum has created a great exhibit by which they off set their older masterpieces with contemporary works. In this way viewers get a old and new perspective on a specific theme. Don't miss this.
I want to visit this place again in 2024.
Anything travels
