The first exhibition of Poly MGM Museum is titled "Blue Ribbon: Exploring the Mysterious Sea and Encountering the Treasures of the Silk Road" and is co-curated by a team of expert consultants from China, Italy and France. This trip started with a sudden conversation with a friend about "Let's go to Hong Kong." We decided to go a week before we left for Hong Kong. I was shaking like a newborn fawn at the possibility of gaining 40,000 lol I also took a plane from Centrair to Hong Kong, but it took an hour to get from Hong Kong to Macau by high-speed ferry. It was equivalent to 7,000 yen round trip in Japanese yen. (It was really cheap) I felt that it was more economical to go via Hong Kong than to fly directly to Macau! Macao has always been a window for cultural exchange between the East and the West, where people can hear the pulse of world culture. I recently visited Macao to see a museum, the MGM Cotai Museum, which is hosting the "Blue Ribbon" Maritime Silk Road Exhibition. Let's explore the mysterious sea and encounter the treasures of the Silk Road. The museum is designed with cultural elements from 12 countries along the Silk Road and is themed around the Belt and Road Initiative. It displays and collects cultural heritage relics and artworks from countries and regions along the route. It is a combination of traditional intangible cultural heritage and contemporary innovation, ancient relics and modern art, and the essence of Eastern and Western cultures. Four bronze animal heads from the Old Summer Palace are on display at the museum's first exhibition. These four bronze animal heads are the ox, monkey, tiger, and pig. They stand quietly in the display case, as if they want to tell people the unknown legendary history. They were once part of the fountain outside the Haiyan Hall of the Old Summer Palace, witnessing the splendor and magnificence of ancient Chinese royal gardens. Among them, the horse and pig heads were auctioned by Stanley Ho and donated to the Old Summer Palace. 1. Interior Design: Beyond the artifacts, the venue's interior is particularly stunning, featuring Afghan white jade, Amazon green luxury stone, and French red silk marble used as floor tiles. 2. Display Cases: The display cases are made from the finest materials, with lighting and reflections carefully managed to ensure the glass is non-reflective. 3. Background: The backdrop for the four zodiac heads is a digital recreation of the Haiyantang from the Old Summer Palace, blending reality with virtual elements and modern with ancient, creating a strong sense of time travel. As historical witnesses of the Qing Dynasty's plunder and destruction by foreign powers, eight of these heads have now returned, and we look forward to the day when all twelve zodiac heads are reunited. However, it's worth noting that the value of many artifacts has been exaggerated. Some artifacts with fabricated stories have appeared at auctions with inflated prices, possibly for money laundering purposes. A recent visit to the MGM Museum in Macau left me utterly amazed, with the word 'wealth' echoing in my mind. Located within the MGM building, right next to the MGM Casino, the museum offers free tickets at the entrance despite being fully booked online, allowing visitors to enter as they arrive. The exhibition's theme revolves around the cultural exchange and connections along the Maritime Silk Road, featuring fifteen national first-class cultural relics. Among these are the famous Yuanmingyuan animal heads of the ox, tiger, monkey, and pig, along with exquisite shipwreck ceramics and gold and silver artifacts. Guided tours are available in Cantonese and Mandarin, though the Mandarin commentary is somewhat less fluent. Overall, it's highly recommended! The dome at the entrance symbolizes 'under the dome, all is the sea of stars.' Upon entry, a massive screen plays a stunning one-minute video, each frame worthy of being a gilded postcard. The 'Monsoon' section explores the understanding of ocean currents and navigation by Eastern and Western peoples. The 'Cultural Context' section showcases artifacts from various shipwreck sites, including beautiful export ceramics. The 'Fusion' section is the highlight, featuring silver teapots, gilded incense pouches, and coins illustrating the mutual influence of Eastern and Western cultures, with the Yuanmingyuan animal heads being particularly striking. The final 'Connection' section displays contemporary artworks. Don't forget to look up and down: the columns feature cloisonné enamel brackets, and the floor is inlaid with totems from 12 countries along the Silk Road, showcasing exquisite attention to detail. This is the most opulent museum I've ever seen, resembling a luxury hotel with no unpleasant odors, a pleasant fragrance, a black and gold color scheme that's not gloomy, spacious yet not empty, and large screens everywhere displaying high-quality content with impressive special effects. Most importantly, the glass doesn't reflect at all, allowing for perfect photos of the animal heads (a stark contrast to the National Museum).
