Bodhi Temple is located on the west side of the middle section of Southwest Road in Mangshi. It is a temple of Theravada Buddhism. It is called "Zangxiang" in Dai language, which means gem temple. According to records, the temple was built in the 16th year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. According to legend, the eldest son of the chief of Mangshi (now Mangshi) gave up his official position and cut his hair to become a monk. The tree was borrowed and named Bodhi Temple. For more than 300 years, it has been repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt by wars and catastrophes. The Bodhi Temple has gone through vicissitudes of life. Until now, except for the Han Xieshan-style building on the roof, the overall structure is in the style of the Dai nationality. Although this temple is not large, it covers an area of 3,600 square meters. The temple houses a dazzling array of murals, paper-cuts, and ten thousand scrolls of scriptures. A pair of stone-carved animals in front of the main hall are a kind of strange beast in Burmese legend, called "Gado", specially guarding the Buddhist temple. Bodhi Temple is not only a place for monks to chant scriptures and worshippers, but also a treasure house of Dai folk art. On the eighth, fifteenth, twenty-third, and thirtieth day of the lunar calendar, believers from nearby villages gather here with flowers and offerings to worship Buddha devoutly. This temple enjoys a certain reputation in Myanmar and is also a famous Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia.
