I hadn't even heard of the Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum before I planned my trip to Xining (embarrassingly ignorant, I know). At the time, I knew almost nothing about Tibetan culture, only that there was a massive 618-meter Thangka painting here. When I finally entered the museum, I regretted not allocating more time… I ended up being ushered out by the closing announcement. But it was truly amazing! Almost everyone lingered in front of the 618-meter Thangka, marveling and gazing intently. Long story short, this place not only houses the Guinness World Record-holding giant Thangka, created by 400 artists over 4 years, but also detailed exhibits on ethnic clothing and architecture, daily life, history and culture, medicine, Tibetan books… everything you can imagine. It encompasses all aspects of Tibetan culture. 🔺Introduction: Located in Xining, the Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum is the only national first-class museum dedicated to the comprehensive collection, preservation, exhibition, research, education, and inheritance of Tibetan culture. In one of the exhibition halls, 400 top painters used the traditional Tibetan art of Lun painting techniques and it took 27 years to create it. To prevent altitude sickness for the following itinerary, after dinner, I ordered two bottles of oxygen (minimum order of two) to prepare for the next day. However, although my head felt heavy all day the next day, I didn’t use the oxygen and left it at the hotel. Day 2: Xining——Riyue Mountain——Qinghai Lake——Chaka Salt Lake——Xining 🍽️Food: Ordered bread delivery last night to bring along, ate it when hungry on the way. Breakfast was KFC (soy milk and fried dough sticks) delivered by the driver. For lunch, ate at a beef noodle shop the driver often goes to (cheap, 12 RMB per bowl, bad taste, only a few tiny pieces of beef, very poor service, they only served the tables with more orders, ignored those of us who only ordered beef noodles, despite many reminders; the table next to us also only ordered beef noodles and was also repeatedly urging. Anyway, it just filled the stomach, don’t expect good taste or service). Dinner was KFC ordered back at the hotel. I think the round-trip small train is very necessary; with limited time on a group tour, the small train is essential to travel between the four stations of the salt lake. I hadn't even heard of the Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum before I planned my trip to Xining (facepalm), and I knew next to nothing about Tibetan culture at the time, only that there was a massive 618-meter Thangka. I regretted not allocating more time as soon as I entered the museum... and was eventually ushered out by the closing announcement. But it was truly amazing! Almost everyone lingered in front of the 618-meter Thangka, marveling and gazing intently. Long story short, not only is there a Guinness World Record-breaking giant Thangka created by 400 painters over 4 years, but there are also detailed exhibits of ethnic clothing and architecture, daily life, history and culture, medicine, Tibetan books... all kinds of records and displays. They are all handmade, and the photos taken with a mobile phone cannot fully restore the beauty of the real thing... There is also a documentary in the museum that is also well shot and worth seeing. Due to limited time, I only visited the South Hall's painted paintings (Thangka) and some unearthed cultural relics, and did not visit the architecture exhibition, clothing exhibition and the North Hall.
