Starting early from Taipei's city center, you can take a bus winding up the mountain, passing through Zhuzihu and Lengshuikeng. At the entrance to Qingtiangang, a stone archway welcomes visitors, leading to a well-maintained wooden boardwalk that stretches deep into the grasslands. On either side of the path, lush silvergrass and wildflowers sway gently in the breeze, while cattle graze peacefully in the distance, creating a pastoral scene. You can start from Jiantan MRT Station and take Bus 15 to the terminal station, Qingtiangang. There, you will see a super healing scene - water buffaloes basking in the sun and grazing leisurely, making you feel like life has slowed down 🐃. Then, descend from Qingtiangang to Lengshuikeng Visitor Center. The scenery along the way is absolutely amazing 👍! You will pass by Lengshuikeng Ecological Pond, where the water is crystal clear and surrounded by green trees, full of natural atmosphere 🌳. There is also Milk Lake, where the water is a unique color, like milk, super dreamy 🥛. The whole journey takes less than an hour, and you can enjoy so much beautiful scenery, it's really worth it! However, I must remind you ⚠️, the Juan Silk Waterfall Trail was damaged by a previous typhoon, so now you can only go down from Qingtiangang or Lengshuikeng. And you can't go any further when you reach the waterfall, you must return to Qingtiangang or Lengshuikeng to take the bus. I didn't know this, so I walked the same section of the road three times, it was really "sour" 😫. Getting There - Take the subway to the MRT Jiantan station (red line) and here take the S15 bus that takes you directly to Qingtiangang (30 NTD). It will take 30-45 minutes to go there. It is famous for a home of water buffalo as also popular destination for hiking. It’s a family friendly destinations where you can see many generations visiting this attractions to enjoy the beautiful panorama. You can get to this grassland by own vehicle, or if you are going to take public transportation, you definitely can! From Beitou MRT St., take Little Bus (小9) heading to Qingtiangang St. (擎天崗).

Getting There - There is 1 bus that brings people up and down, but most drives as there’s plenty of parking space here. Often seen with groups where they private hire a mini bus. Attractions - Heard from locals there that these cows are also called: Retired cows, where they’re too old to plow or just too old to work where they’ll be brought here to enjoy the rest of their life. Food & Restaurants - There’s a small home-run convenience store. The pricing is reasonable with no mark up. Sells milk ice cream too (not sure where get got the milk from~) It’s a good spot to picnic too. The entire are is huge with less restriction. almost every place on this vast plot of grass is free to roam around.

Great escape from the hustle & bustle of the city life. Yang Ming Shan was a beauty with lots of places to visit such as the Qi Xing mountain (which you can do a quick 1hr hike up to the peak), and many others. We took a bus up to yang ming shan from bei tou & it was an easier journey from there, or you can book a taxi service to bring you around yang ming shan as a hop on and hop off service! We also visited the xiao you keng, where it smelled strongly of sulfur & if you visit at the right timing, you can even join in their flower festivals! It is about 770 meters above sea level. It is famous for its vast grasslands, buffaloes and trails. Fish Road Ancient Trail (Jinbaoli Avenue) From Shanghuangxi Parking Lot to Jinbaoli Avenue Gate Take bus 1717 from Jinshan Old Street Start hiking from Shanghuangxi Parking Lot (with public restrooms) During the autumn season, Walking along this ancient trail is incredibly comfortable and scenic. The autumn silvergrass sways gracefully in the breeze. Although the trail from Shanghuangxi to Jinbaoli Avenue Gate is entirely uphill, once you pass through Jinbaoli Avenue Gate, you'll reach the Qingtiangang Grassland on Yangmingshan. This is another wonderful spot for relaxing and taking photos. After finishing your hike, you can take bus 108 (park shuttle to Yangmingshan Bus Terminal) or bus S15 (to MRT Shilin or Jiantan stations) to descend the mountain.

The weather at Qingtiangang is sunny. In Taipei, you can take the Tamsui-Xinyi MRT Line to Jiantan MRT Station, then transfer to bus S15 to reach Qingtiangang (which has public restrooms, a shop, and vending machines). Alternatively, you can take bus R5 to Yangmingshan Bus Terminal and then transfer to bus 108 to get to Qingtiangang. Upon arrival at Qingtiangang, you'll be greeted by a vast, lush green grassland—very soothing to the soul. You can take a walk around the grassland (and even head to Zhushong Mountain). The path has gentle slopes with minimal elevation changes. Along the way, you'll pass the city gate of the Jinbaoli Trail, which leads to Jinshan. (It's especially worth visiting during the autumn silvergrass season.) If you continue towards Fengguizui, you'll find another large grassland. On clear days, you can capture photos of Taipei 101 with grazing cattle in the foreground. The scenery along the way is absolutely stunning.

Visitors usually flock here in spring for cherry blossoms and in summer for hydrangeas, especially around Zhuzihu, but I didn’t manage to come on season. The park also features volcanic landscapes like steaming vents at Xiaoyoukeng and tranquil spots like Qingtiangang grassland. It’s accessible by public transit, however, I wouldn’t say as convenient as expected. The bus frequency/capacity is not enough to accommodate visitors especially during high seasons. I had to wait for two hours for bus, so I ended up doing a hike (and still arrived before my friend who decided to wait instead). Nonetheless, Yangmingshan offers a peaceful retreat with fresh mountain air and sweeping views—perfect for a nature-filled day trip from the city.
