Qinling Four Treasures Science Park in Xi'an, Shaanxi
The Qinling Four Treasures Science Park is located to the west of Louguantai in Zhouzhi County, Xi'an. It serves as an important showcase for the achievements of Shaanxi Province in ecological civilization construction, the biodiversity of the Qinling Mountains, and the conservation of wild animals in Shaanxi Province. The park opened on May 28, 2021, and is home to a variety of precious wild animals including red pandas, black bears, Reeves's muntjac, goral, golden eagles, long-eared owls, eagle owls, common kestrels, vultures, and Lady Amherst's pheasants. It also houses the world's only captive brown giant panda, 'Qi Zai'.
Here are some travel tips:
• Itinerary suggestion: Starting from downtown Xi'an, you can take the highway, covering about 80 kilometers, and navigate directly to the Qinling Four Treasures Science Park, which takes about 1.5 hours. It is recommended to depart earlier and aim to arrive by 9:30 am. The park is of moderate size, and the external parking area is not large, so parking can be difficult if you arrive late. The park opens around 9:30 am, and there is a feeding session by the keepers after opening, where you can see Qi Zai eating and interacting with visitors.
• Tour route: Pavilion 1 is at the highest point of the Four Treasures Park, and you can take a shuttle bus directly there (ticket price is 10 yuan per person). After reaching the highest point by bus, you can slowly walk down. The star of Pavilion 1 is A Bao, one of Qi Zai's fathers-in-law, who was bitten by Qi Zai and became known as 'Wrench Ear'. Qi Zai is in Pavilion 2, located slightly to the left among the four enclosures. The design of the eight enclosures in the Four Treasures Pavilion is very good. The indoor part is divided into three rooms. One is a pure enclosure, which is a relatively independent resting place for the giant panda, not visible to visitors and only accessible to staff. Another is a room with large glass windows, which is also the activity room for the giant panda, equipped with a pool, activity frames, and other facilities, allowing visitors to see the panda's indoor activities. The third part is the passage from indoors to outdoors, designed under the visitor's walkway, with a transparent high-strength glass ceiling, allowing visitors to look down and directly see the giant panda walking from indoors to the yard. The fourth part is the outdoor activity area for the panda, nearly 800 square meters, with a simulated mountain slope design. The lowest end has a wall and a visitor platform, allowing visitors to have a full view of the panda's outdoor activities at eye level. This design is fantastic.
• Other experiences: In addition to pandas, there are also other rare animals such as takins, crested ibis, and Qinling golden snub-nosed monkeys, which are also very worth seeing. Around the Four Treasures Park, located at Louguantai in Zhouzhi County, is a very particular place in Chinese Taoism. There is a large sightseeing garden nearby, and friends interested in Chinese Taoist culture can take the opportunity to visit.
If you plan to visit, it is recommended to purchase tickets in advance and to be mindful of protecting wildlife and the environment.
