A trip to Fujian has always been a romantic anticipation for me. Taking advantage of spring, I finally set foot on this long-awaited land and embarked on a four-day, three-night journey to Fuzhou and Quanzhou. The entire trip was full of surprises, with every scenic spot and experience becoming an unforgettable memory. Initially, I planned to spend all four days in Fuzhou. However, after accidentally seeing photos of Quanzhou shared by others - those alleys filled with Minnan charm and classical architecture immediately captivated me. I desperately wanted to experience the unique cultural atmosphere of the Minnan region firsthand. So, I made a quick decision two days before departure to change my itinerary and rebook hotels, diving straight into Quanzhou's embrace. Due to the rushed planning, I didn't have time to create a detailed travel guide and chose a guesthouse near Kaiyuan Temple, thinking it would be convenient. However, after two days of exploration, I realized that staying near the Clock Tower would have been the best choice when considering the distances between various attractions. During my two days in Quanzhou, I strolled through the ancient city and visited several renowned temples. At that moment, I deeply understood the elegance of the phrase "half city of earthly life, half city of divinity." The streets were filled with the atmosphere of daily life, while the temples exuded a sacred aura of peace and tranquility. Whether it's the depth of historical culture or the breadth of urban features, Quanzhou's ancient city is like a treasure trove, worthy of another visit to explore and savor slowly. For my food adventure, I relied entirely on the Renzai app. I must say, Quanzhou's cuisine perfectly suited my taste! The seafood was so fresh it seemed to carry the ocean's vibrant energy, absolutely delicious with every bite. The beef short ribs were grilled to perfection, bursting with juices when bitten into. The satay hot pot was particularly unique, with its rich satay flavor spreading across the taste buds, each mouthful a delightful surprise. Before leaving, I accidentally wandered into Huaqiao New Village and discovered an amazing tea shop. I ordered a roasted tea cheese cake - its delicate texture and subtle tea fragrance, combined with the shop's first-class ambiance, led me to leisurely linger there for an hour before heading to the high-speed rail station contentedly. This visit to Quanzhou wasn't during a holiday, so there weren't many tourists, making the entire travel experience absolutely wonderful. Though I'm not sure when I'll be able to travel on a working day again, Quanzhou's beauty has left a deep impression in my heart. Shenzhen self-driving tour to Xiamen and Quanzhou: A super detailed 5-day, 4-night itinerary‼️ My first trip to Xiamen was after the high school entrance exam. I joined a tour group with my classmates and took a long bus ride🚌 to visit Gulangyu Island, which was a popular destination nationwide at the time. This time, it was just the two of us in an electric car, starting from Shenzhen and traveling along the coastline! 🚘Self-driving route: Day 1️⃣: Shenzhen┅approx. 3.5h┅Shantou🏨 We departed in the evening and arrived in Shantou at 9pm. We had dinner at Tianshan Beef Hot Pot, where the beef was fresh and the portions were generous. They're open until 2am. After dinner, we stayed overnight in the city center. Day 2️⃣: Shantou┅approx. 2h┅Dongshan Island, Zhangzhou🏨 We left for Dongshan Island at 10am and rented a small electric scooter🛵 for CNY30/day. What a bargain! We first went to the Nanwang Pavilion, where the movie *The Left Ear* was filmed. Just follow the signs to get there. The pavilion is actually an old man's house. You can buy a bottle of water or a creative ice cream to visit, or take photos next to the cafe. After visiting the pavilion, we went to Ding Street and Nanmen Bay. We stayed near Jinluan Bay that night so we could watch the sunrise🌅 the next day. Day 3️⃣: Dongshan Island, Zhangzhou┅approx. 2h┅Xiamen Huandao Road┅approx. 1.5h┅Quanzhou🏨 We got up at 5:40am to watch the sunrise. The mirror-like sunrise on the beach was truly beautiful! I think it's the most worthwhile sight on Dongshan Island😎, but it depends on the weather. After watching the sunrise, we went back to the hotel to catch up on sleep and left for Xiamen around 10am. Lunch: Chenxi Satay Noodles, delicious and I loved it. Dinner: No. 6 Private Kitchen, seafood restaurant, fresh ingredients but there was a queue. After dinner, we drove directly to Quanzhou and stayed at a B&B near the ancient city. Day 4️⃣: Quanzhou Ancient City┅approx. 1h┅Shishi┅approx. 4h┅Chaozhou🏨 We went out at 9am and checked in at some photo spots on West Street. I personally think the best photo spot is the No. 7 store on the Meichaofeng rooftop. The only problem with West Street is that it's crowded. I also couldn't stand the smell of ginger duck😂. In the afternoon, we went to Shishi to see the sea and chilled at the Tangerine Lighthouse Cafe for an afternoon. The winter sea in Quanzhou is charming. I'd call it a branch of Jeju Island, but unfortunately, it was cloudy that day and there was no sunset. In the evening, we drove directly to Chaozhou. In Chaozhou, we ate casserole porridge, rice noodle rolls, and kway teow soup. I wish I had a bigger stomach! The ancient city of Quanzhou has not been developed on a large scale and is almost the same as it was 20 years ago. The Hindu stone pillars of Kaiyuan Temple and Tianhou Temple are exquisite. The Ancient Ship Gallery is not open. The Myna and the two Song Dynasty pagodas in Kaiyuan Temple are not to be missed. The Renshou Pagoda and the Liusheng Pagoda (Wanshou Pagoda) in Shishi look similar. You can enter the first floor of the Liusheng Pagoda and walk around the core of the pagoda. The Song Dynasty water lotus incense burner in Qingjing Mosque is placed outside, so you can see it at will. The Tonghuai Guanyue Temple is always shrouded in incense smoke, and you can visit the Ceylon Culture Museum next to it if you have time. Tianhou Temple is very quiet in the early morning, and you can quietly enjoy the Deji Gate Ruins at the entrance. You must also visit the Liusheng Pagoda in Shishi, the Anping Bridge in Jingjiang, and the Luoyang Bridge. My child bought a stone tablet and a tumbler at the West Street Tourist Center. Accommodation: Duplex twin room at Jingyu Bieyuan. The room is on the first floor of an old house. It is not large and has two single beds and a sofa bed. It is very quiet at night. You can reach West Street by walking through a small alley. My child likes it very much and recommended a route for eating, drinking, and playing. I also found the Nanyuan Zongzhengsi Ruins Exhibition Hall in the small alley behind the homestay. Food: I ordered a set meal at Qiaoji Ginger Duck recommended by the homestay: half a ginger duck, beef soup, vegetable rice, and stir-fried seasonal vegetables. I ordered a small steak for my child, and the total was CNY 106. It was enough for a family of three, and it tasted good. The noodle paste at Litanjia is delicious. The CNY 4 glutinous rice cakes taste similar at each store, but the freshly made ones are the best. Transportation: Day 1: Taishun - Luoyang Bridge - Quanzhou, check in to the homestay. The parking lot of Luoyang Bridge is far away. There is no entrance fee, only a parking fee. There are many people on the bridge, and some people are swimming in the sea. It feels like a place for residents of the community on the opposite side to take a walk after dinner. You can see the stone pagoda of Kaiyuan Temple and the sunset from the roof of Jingyu Bieyuan. Day 2: Kaiyuan Temple - Confucian Temple - Qingjing Mosque - Guanyue Temple - Tianhou Temple, Deji Gate Ruins. The small white buses in the ancient city look like large golf carts. The fare is CNY 2 each time. There is a bus stop at each scenic spot, so it is convenient to get on and off. The bus stops according to the destination of the first passenger, and other passengers can get off as long as it is on the way. Day 3: Take a small white bus to Tianhou Temple, Qingjing Mosque, and Guanyue Temple to take photos in the early morning. Noon: Liusheng Pagoda in Shishi - Anping Bridge in Jingjiang. Drive to Ruian in the afternoon. I saw the small Quanjun Emperor Palace near Tianhou Temple.
