Best Things to DoNo.3 of Best Things to Do in Madagascar
Historic buildings
The Queen's Palace is a landscape of great ornamental and cultural value in Thane, and one of the few in Madagascar that has been selected as a UNESCO world historical and cultural heritage. The Queen's Palace stands on a very high mountain in the city and overlooks the entire city of Thane. The Queen's Palace was built between 1839 and 1840, during the reign of the famous Queen Ranavalona I (1828-1861) in Madagascar's history. Queen Naravaruna I was the widow of King Radama I (Radama I, also a king of the Emerina dynasty of Madagascar), and after the death of the king, she began to dominate the fate of the kingdom of horses. The design and construction of the Queen's Palace was handed over to the architects in the British and French missionary teams at that time. It was a typical European Baroque style in the 19th century. The main building of the palace consists of two parts, and the main body of the inner palace is basically made of red sandalwood. The palace, the outer city walls are all made of granite stone, the whole is towering and straight, the height can reach 40 meters, and the momentum is extraordinary. According to historical records, at the time of construction, 2,000 migrant workers died of overwork on the way to transport the red sandalwood columns in the palace. Regrettably, in November 1995, a sudden fire burned down most of the wooden interior buildings and decorations of the Queen's Palace. So far, only the tall walls and hollow but still gorgeous buildings of the Queen's Palace stand there. The windows and porch columns tell the visitors about her past glory.
