Have you still not experienced a cruise by 2025? (Recommended for beginners) For your first cruise, I chose the most economical option with MSC. 🚢 The ship is the Grandiosa. Cruising along the Mediterranean coast in Europe is a common way to travel. Typically, the cruise stops at multiple countries along the Mediterranean, with passengers boarding and disembarking daily. The Mediterranean is relatively calm, making it a safe choice for first-time cruisers. 💰 Costs 💰 This time, I booked an 8-day, 7-night trip in an interior cabin for $1,156 USD, which includes a $75 credit. Cruise prices fluctuate, so keep an eye out for deals. Of course, it also depends on your schedule flexibility. Once onboard, head to the kiosk on the fifth floor to link your credit card 💳. There’s an additional daily charge of $12 for gratuities, which will appear during the trip (don’t be alarmed 😂—it’s standard). 🌟 Recommendations 🌟 We paid a little extra for a specialty restaurant and a paid performance (which includes a drink). It was absolutely worth it! MSC’s Japanese teppanyaki chefs put on a show, and it’s one of the few Asian flavors available onboard. Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. 〰️ Itinerary 〰️ Day1️⃣ Genoa (Portofino), Italy Departure from Genoa at 5:00 PM. You can board early, as there are usually shore excursions in the morning. Genoa is MSC’s home port, so the signage and directions are straightforward—just follow the signs or the crowd. ⚠️ Luggage may not arrive immediately, so bring a bag with swimwear or items you’ll need before departure. ⚠️ If your luggage hasn’t arrived, don’t worry—there’s a small room near the credit card kiosk on the fifth floor where unclaimed luggage is stored. Day2️⃣ Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy About 1.5 hours by car from Rome. You’ll need to take a paid shuttle bus to the train station. Day3️⃣ Palermo (Monreale), Italy Sicily (check my homepage for other food recommendations). You can walk to the city center, and most attractions are within a 10-20 minute walking distance if you’re up for it. Day4️⃣ At sea There’s so much to do onboard that you won’t feel bored at all. Day5️⃣ Ibiza (Balearic Islands), Spain The famous party island with breathtaking scenery. It’s about a 30-minute walk to the city center (guess how I know 😂). Taking a public ferry offers a better experience, though some reviews complain about its timing. Day6️⃣ Valencia, Spain The port is quite large, so it’s highly recommended to queue early to disembark. A bus to the city center costs €13 and stops at the entrance to the old town. Day7️⃣ Marseille (Provence), France MSC offers a shuttle bus to the city center for €16, but you’ll have to wait outdoors in the sun. The shore excursion time here is the shortest of the entire trip. Fortunately, taking an Uber round-trip costs about €40, which is reasonable if you’re traveling with someone. Day8️⃣ Genoa (Portofino), Italy ⚠️ Before 10:00 PM the day before disembarkation, attach the luggage tags provided by housekeeping and leave your luggage outside your cabin door. ⚠️ On the morning of disembarkation, cabins must be vacated by 8:00 AM, but you can still enjoy activities and meals onboard.

The aquarium looks like a blooming lotus, with each petal being an exhibition hall introducing different marine life; the science museum is shaped like the skeleton of a giant whale; the space museum is shaped like an eye, with the eyeball and pupil in the middle actually being the space museum, IMAX cinema, and arcade for laser 3D projection; and the opera house, viewed from a distance, looks like a large spaceship. All the buildings are very distinctive and you don't have to go inside every one of them to see them. #familytime We recently took a family city break in Valencia, and it was such a great experience! The blend of history and modern attractions kept all of us entertained. Our first stop was the City of Arts and Sciences, which is a must-visit. For around €8-€10 per person, the kids were amazed by the futuristic architecture and interactive exhibits at the Science Museum. We also spent a day at the Oceanogràfic (€31 for adults, €23 for kids), the largest aquarium in Europe. The underwater tunnels and dolphin show were definitely the highlights! After that, we wandered around the old town, taking in the beauty of the cathedral and the charming streets of El Carmen. Valencia is also perfect for family bike rides. We rented bikes and explored Turia Gardens, a massive green space in the heart of the city, and ended up at the beach for a relaxing afternoon. #myhiddengems The Cuidad de la artes y las Ciencias cannot be missed if you are visiting Valencia. It consists of spectacular looking white buildings surrounded by large pools of turquoise water. You must see the buildings during the day time and then return to see them flood lit at night. The centres attractions are based around 3 themes: art, science and nature. My personal favourite is the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia (Queen Sofia’s Palace of the Arts). It is gorgeous. Other than that there are several other buildings like Royal Opera, Museum of Science, Hemispheric with its Imax theater, oceanographic aquarium. Not matter when you come to see, day or night. The City of Art and Sciences was designed by Felix Candela and world famous Spanish architect and engineer Santiago Calatrava who was born in Benimamet, Valencia and inaugurated in 1998. Its cost was 1200 millions of Euros. It is the second time I came here and I am still fascinated by the neofuturistic design. The white constructions are a beautiful contrast to the blue sky. La Falla is a festival (also known as the "Fire Festival") held in Valencia from March 14th to March 19th every year to celebrate the arrival of spring. This traditional festival has been listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. During the Fallas Festival, the entire city will be filled with hundreds of Fallas dolls, all of which take a year to complete and are full of the creators' hard work, creativity and artistic level. After being displayed, selected and awarded, the Fallas dolls will be burned in the "doll burning" event on March 19, marking the end of the festival. Each "Fallas Sculpture" has a theme, whether it is a myth or legend, a political satire, or a warm and funny family scene. Some of the large-scale falla sculptures are even more than ten meters high, which is spectacular.

It is located at Carrer de la Llotja, 2, 46001, Valencia, the nearest metro station is Xativa around 900 meters 12 minutes walk. It is open daily from 1000-1900, only Sunday 1000-1400, free entrance. The Lonja is one of the most famous civil gothic monuments in Europe. This great building wanted to symbolize the Valencia wealth of medieval times since its construction in 1492. It was declared a National Historic and Artistic Monuments in 1931 and was made a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996.

It is located at Placa del Mercat, s/n, 46001 Valencia, the nearest Metro Station is Angel Guimera, beside Valencia Central Market. The church was built in 1240 on the site of an old mosque, it had been reconstructed on the 14thand 16th centuries due to fire damage. The main facade is looking out of Central Market and facing the Lonja and has become the meeting point. In the main facade, a baroque entrance was opened under the O de Sant Joan, there is a small window, under it there is a sculptured eagle, symbol of Saint John the Evangelist. Be sure to visit this church, as the structure that remains today is early 17th century.
