Our Lady of Antwerp's Cathedral, the setting for 'A Dog of Flanders'
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Antwerp is the cathedral that
was the setting for 'The Dog of Flanders'.
Two paintings by Rubens that Nero really wanted to see before he died.
In the old days, the paintings were covered with cloth,
and you had to pay a silver coin to see them.
Antwerp Central Station, famous throughout Europe for its gorgeous and beautiful architecture,
and selected as the most beautiful train station in the world 🚉 In front of the station, there is the Antwerp Ferris Wheel and
A walk around the city hall,
It's a 10-minute walk from the station to the cathedral, and on the way there,
There are shopping streets in the city center, and you can see beautiful buildings here and there, so it's not boring,
and it's a trip that kills two birds with one stone 👍 👍
Antwerp, the center of Belgium and the Netherlands
Antwerp, located in the Flanders region, uses a Flemish language similar to Dutch, and its culture is said to be similar to the Netherlands. The relationship between Dutch and Flemish is said to be similar to that between British and American English 🤔
So I was happy to find the Dutch Jumbo Mart 😊 in Belgium. I was so touched by the Dutch Jumbo Martㅎ
I bought a delicious sandwich, coffee, bread, and chocolate and went.
The entrance fee to the Cathedral of Our Lady that I arrived at was 12 euros.
I didn't go in, but I looked around the statue of the Dog of Flanders in front of the cathedral and the surrounding area. I felt like I was in a world of innocence, as if I were the main character in the Flanders fairy tale. 💜
In fact, the statue of Nero and Patrasche located outside the cathedral is said to have been based on the original Belgian novel, The Dog of Flanders, but it wasn't very famous in Belgium, so they acquired the copyright in Japan and made it into an animation that became a hit in the East. However, the guide explained and it was popular with tourists.
There was a waffle restaurant near the cathedral, so I stopped by.

It was a good place to eat and have a quick meal near the cathedral, and the view was good 👌
A shopping mall I found while walking along Meyer Street.
I went in because I wanted to use the bathroom. The interior was pretty and fancy, and the mall was large and good, but the bathroom was 1 euro.
Each country's bathroom had different services and usage methods, like a franchise. There were many services here, such as blood pressure checks and water sharing.
The mall itself was worth seeing, and the building seemed to be inside a palace. 🤗
And the large sculpture in front of the square
I found out about Antwerpen on Google and the name of the city.
The origin and story of the statue.
There is a story about the origin of the name Antwerp. In ancient Rome, a giant named Druon Antigonus was committing the evil deed of cutting off people's wrists. Then, the Roman general Silvius Brabo is said to have defeated Antigonus by killing him and then cut off his hand in the same way and threw it into the Scheldt River. It is said that the word 'throwing a wrist' (Hantwerpen) was changed to Antwerp through silence and other means. At that time, Silvius Brabo is said to have suggested that the city's name be kept as it was because the word also meant 'port'. In front of the Antwerp City Hall, there is a fountain that depicts Silvius Bravo throwing his wrist, and in Antwerp, souvenirs such as chocolates shaped like this wrist are sold." It was very helpful in understanding the statue.
