Giant Buddha & Peaceful Vibes
#springitinerary Ryozen Kannon is one of those places that sneaks up on you with its quiet power. Sitting on a hill in the Gion area, this giant white Buddha looks over the city, offering a peaceful and reflective atmosphere. Built as a memorial for soldiers who died in World War II, it’s a spot for calm contemplation. The Buddha itself is huge, and beneath it, there’s a hall with memorial tablets honoring over 2 million lost souls. The whole place just has a vibe of peace, especially at sunset.
Not far from Ryozen Kannon is Kodai-ji, a beautiful Zen temple founded in 1606 by Nene, the wife of a famous warlord. The temple’s gardens are so calming, with ponds, bamboo, and teahouses that make it a perfect spot to relax and soak in some history. Both spots are ideal for a quiet afternoon away from the usual Kyoto crowds.
