PAOAY CHURCH, LAOAG CITY, PHILIPPINES
Review of driving route (rental) from Manila to Paoay Church
If you are looking for a driving trip from Manila to Paoay Church, one of the oldest churches in the Philippines, this trip takes about 8-10 hours. For me, it is a very worthwhile trip.
🚗 Route and road conditions
Leave Manila via NLEX (North Luzon Expressway) connecting to SCTEX and TPLEX.
Passing through Tarlac, Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur before entering Ilocos Norte.
Most of the roads are expressways and highways. Good condition, easy to drive. But the end of the road may be a two-lane road.
⛽ Rest stops and facilities
There are gas stations (Shell, Petron, Caltex) and restaurants along the way.
It is recommended to stop by Vigan City to see the old town or stop by Laoag City before reaching Paoay.
💰 Estimated cost
Gasoline: 3,500-5,000 PHP (depending on the vehicle used)
Tollway fee: 800-1,200 PHP (NLEX + SCTEX + TPLEX)
Car rental: 3,000-5,000 PHP per day (for a medium-sized car)
🏛️ Paoay Church - Highlight of the trip
The church was built in the 17th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Baroque architecture mixed with local styles, characterized by thick walls and large stone pillars.
There are many shops to choose from near Paoay Sand Dunes for ATV riding. My advice is to look for shops that offer good packages.
📌 Recommendations
✔️ Leave early in the morning to reduce traffic jams in Manila.
✔️ Fill up the gas tank before leaving because some areas do not have large gas stations.
✔️ If you do not want to drive for a long time You can fly to Laoag and rent a car to drive to Paoay.
🎯 Summary
🚙 Driving from Manila to Paoay Church is a convenient route with good road conditions and many stops. It is suitable for travelers who want flexibility in their travel. The northern Philippines has beautiful views, delicious food, and interesting history, making this trip worth the long drive!
