The Most Important Monastery in Barcelona
Mediterranean Coast Tour of Spain ~ Barcelona (Region)
Its history dates back to the 9th century. The monastery consists of a church built in the 11th and 12th centuries, an impressive Romanesque cloister surrounded by the priests' hall and monastery buildings. The rooms above the cloister were constructed in the 16th century. Within the monastery, there are remains of ancient early Christian architecture. The bell tower, dome, and altarpiece, especially the "All Saints" painting by Pere Serra, are particularly exquisite. The monastery showcases artistic examples ranging from Romanesque to Baroque styles. Its most unique feature is the 144 carved capitals, each with distinct decorations depicting biblical scenes, mythical animals, and medieval daily life. The 8-meter-high Gothic rose window of the monastery is especially striking. Admission is free and definitely worth a visit!
Another interesting fact is that during the Middle Ages, this monastery was one of the wealthiest and most powerful in Catalonia, governing over 40 towns. It even had its own defensive walls to protect itself from attacks!

A town dominated by an ancient Benedictine monastery.
Mediterranean Coast Tour of Spain ~ Barcelona (Region)
Sant Cugat del Vallès is a small town located just a few kilometers from Barcelona, in the Vallès Occidental region. Its historical heritage is centered around an ancient Benedictine monastery, surrounded by beautiful natural areas.
Sant Cugat stretches across a vast plain defined by the Collserola and Galliners mountain ranges. Although numerous archaeological artifacts from 2000 to 1500 BC have been discovered in the area, the origins of the town can be traced back to the Roman fortress Castrum Octavianum (4th century AD).

If you like comics, this is the museum of your dreams!
Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Barcelona (Region)
A museum that explains the history of comics and illustrations from more than 100 years ago to the present day, when we entered we already noticed their love for the exhibition, the building consists of three floors where you can learn about the history of comics from its origins to the present day.
Every few months temporary exhibitions are held and there is the opportunity to see original works by masters such as Francisco Ibáñez or Harold Foster. You don't need to know Spanish or Catalan to enjoy the art on display. I didn’t know much about Wolverine, but the temporary display was extensive and interesting.

Sunset in Sant Cugat del Vallès — A Peaceful Escape Close to Barcelona
Watching the sunset in Sant Cugat is an underrated experience that quietly rivals the coastlines of Barcelona. This charming town, surrounded by nature and framed by the Collserola hills, offers a calm and beautiful view as the sun dips behind the mountains.
Whether you're sitting near the Monastery of Sant Cugat, walking through Parc de Collserola, or just relaxing in one of the many open plazas, the colors of the sky here feel softer, more personal — far from the busy beaches of the city.
What makes Sant Cugat’s sunset special isn’t dramatic cliffs or sea views, but its peacefulness. The golden light spills over terracotta rooftops, quiet streets, and green parks, creating a warm, intimate atmosphere that feels almost like a local secret.
Perfect for a slow evening walk, a drink on a terrace, or just sitting still and watching the day close.

Lovely cathedral at Sant Cugat
You can’t believe there is such a historic place in this small town - Sant Cugat. It was so peaceful, and the small cathedral is so beautiful!
At the surroundings there were a plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and lovely streets. With a walking distance of 12min you may find a railway station that can travel to the Barcelona city directly.
The cathedral looks like a small castle :)
