The building itself dates back to about 1650, and it's a beautiful baroque church, at the end of the ViadellaPace, next to the Bramante cloister, with frequent exhibitions. The church is small but worth seeing, with some Renaissance frescoes such as Raphael on display, which are of high artistic value.

Wonders of Raphael
A short stroll from the Piazza Navona, you will find the church of Santa Maria della Pace, within this church you can find exquisite frescoes by the world famous Italian Renaissance artist Raphaello, generally known in English as Raphael. Tragically he died at 37 but he produced a huge body of artwork and to be able to view his beautiful artwork completely free in this delightful church is just amazing.

Fabulous frescoes
The Church of Santa Maria Antiqua was such an incredible discovery for me and I had no idea it even existed in the Roman forum and it was well worth the extra money to buy the ‘Super 7’ ticket (the church is one of the super seven sites) The church contains incredible frescoes that were painted during the 6th to the 9th centuries and they represent one of the most incredible ancient religious art collections in the world. I was blown away by this ancient building.

One of Rome‘s Hidden Gems
Not far from the Piazza Navona in Rome, you will find a beautiful little church of Santa Maria della Pace, and it really is a hidden gem in Rome. The current church dates from 1482. It contains beautiful works of art including delightful frescoes by famous artists within its internal chapels. When I visited this church in January, there was almost no one else there, definitely would recommend.
