Museum introduction:
The Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum is a post-Renaissance building with a strong sense of art, known as the "Little White House"! It was built in 1905 and was once the residence of the director of the French Concession Public Board. It has now become a place to showcase the treasures of Shanghai's arts and crafts.
Exhibition halls and exhibits:
The museum has three floors, with three exhibition halls and professional studios for folk crafts, sculpture, and weaving and embroidery. It covers more than a dozen traditional arts and crafts with local Shanghai characteristics, such as embroidery, opera costumes, velvet embroidery, bamboo carving, weaving, boxwood carving, inkstone carving, porcelain carving, fine carving, lacquerware, paper cutting, dough figurines, lanterns, jade carving, and ivory carving.
Visiting experience:
When you enter the museum, you can see exquisite carvings and embroidery works, as well as folk crafts such as paper cutting and lanterns. The jade and ivory carvings on the second floor are particularly worth seeing, with exquisite craftsmanship that is amazing! On the third floor, you can also see craftsmen in the studio making various crafts on site, super interesting!
Shopping experience:
After visiting the exhibits, don't forget to visit the craft shop on the first floor! There are various exquisite crafts for sale, and the prices of paper cutting, wood carving, and other works are affordable. You can buy one to take home as a souvenir!
Environment and atmosphere:
The "Little White House" where the museum is located is a very distinctive building. When you visit, you can pay attention to the elegant decorations in the building, which are full of nostalgia. After the visit, you can also take a walk on the large lawn in front of the small Western-style building. There are red carp in the small pond next to it, super healing!
Photo opportunities:
The spiral staircase from the second floor to the third floor has a retro appearance, super suitable for taking photos! Remember to bring your camera or phone to capture this beautiful moment!
Well, that's all for today's recommendation! If you are interested in the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum, you might as well take some time to visit it! I guarantee you will have a different experience!
