2025 Chengdu Michelin Guide Launch Conference and Star-Viewing Dinner Held at Chengdu Shangri-La Hotel
On September 3, 2024, the 2025 Chengdu Michelin Guide launch conference and star-viewing dinner was held in the Grand Ballroom of Bashu County Shangri-La Chengdu.
The Grand Ballroom of Chengdu Shangri-La Bashu County covers an area of more than 2,000 square meters, and the reception area outside the hall is more than 400 square meters. It has a unique column-free design and can be flexibly divided into three independent banquet halls. Many global forums and exhibitions have chosen to be held in the Shangri-La Grand Ballroom, including the Fortune Global Forum, the International Slow Food Conference, the Forbes China Innovation Summit, the Western Expo, the Spring High-end Wine Show, the China-Africa People's Forum, and the opening ceremony of the Chengdu Consulate General.
Chengdu Shangri-La's 17-year elite banquet service team has hosted and served thousands of high-level banquets, forums, exhibitions, etc. They have rich reception experience and pay attention to every detail. In preparation for this Michelin dinner, Shangri-La assembled a 180-person banquet service team, planned the service routes in advance, and conducted multiple rehearsals to ensure that 260 distinguished guests could enjoy and taste the delicious food prepared by the star chefs at the same time.
Ingenious and local welcome dinner ceremony
In the arrival area of the Grand Ballroom of Shangri-La Bashu County in Chengdu, the hotel banquet team prepared a unique welcome ceremony with Chengdu characteristics. Led by a receptionist dressed in pretty flower-girl costumes, you will walk through the quiet bamboo forest, choose a bamboo chair to sit on, remove the lid of the bowl, and drink a glass of specially prepared summer cocktail to refresh yourself, thus starting the much-anticipated star-studded feast.
Seven stars shine brightly at Chengdu Shangri-La
As a Michelin-invited chef, Executive Chef of Shang Palace Chinese Restaurant at Chengdu Shangri-La, Tang Keli, performed on the same stage with Chef Jiang Qiaomu from Touzao Restaurant (one Michelin star in Shanghai in 2024), Chef Chen Mingmei from Yu Restaurant in Guangzhou (one Michelin star in Guangzhou in 2024), Chef Lin Zihan from Anxiang Restaurant in Hangzhou (one Michelin star in Hangzhou in 2024), Chef Huang Jinghui from Oriental Jingyan Restaurant in Shanghai (one Michelin star in Shanghai in 2024), and Chef Yin Hao from Jingzhaoyin Restaurant in Beijing (three Michelin stars in Beijing in 2024), presenting the Chengdu 2025 Michelin Guide Release Celebration Dinner for the guests.
The only Sichuan dish on the menu of the Michelin Star-gazing Gala Dinner
On the menu of the Michelin Star-gazing Gala Dinner that night, the only Sichuan dish was expertly prepared by the Executive Chef of Chengdu Shangri-La Chinese Restaurant, Chef Tang Keli.
This Sichuan dish is called "Koi Strange Flavor Snowflake Beef", which is inspired by the classic work "Koi Playing with Lotus" in the Chengdu intangible cultural heritage project Shu Brocade.
Chef Tang Keli of Xiang Palace uses the dinner plate as a canvas and, through the combination of ingredients of different colors and his creative ideas, he sketches out a "brocade on the plate", just like the intangible cultural heritage craftsmen weaving magnificent Shu brocade between bright and colorful longitude and latitude lines.
This dish features imported marbled beef and caviar from Ya'an, Sichuan, and is garnished with lotus petals and koi carp.
Among them, the marbled beef is cooked with the unique flavor of the 24 flavors of Sichuan cuisine. It is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The seven flavors of salty, sweet, numbing, spicy, sour, fresh and fragrant are exquisitely blended without overpowering each other, gradually awakening the taste buds.
About Shang Palace and Chef Tang Keli
Chengdu Shangri-La Shang Palace Chinese Restaurant is the signature Chinese restaurant of Shangri-La. The restaurant is located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the hotel. It has an elegant style and offers a charming night view of the Jinjiang Bridge through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows.
Shangri-La has teamed up with Xu Fan, the founder of the Michelin-rated restaurant Xu’s Cuisine, to launch the 24-flavor Shang Palace Sichuan cuisine. Shang Palace Sichuan cuisine is prepared by the hotel's Executive Chinese Chef, Chef Tang Ke. Chef Tang and a team of Chinese chefs have worked together to explore and develop the Shang Palace Sichuan menu, inheriting traditional Sichuan cuisine techniques while constantly integrating and innovating. The menu not only retains the classic dishes that have been loved by diners on the Shang Palace menu for more than a decade, but also plays to its strengths, expressing them in 24 flavors to showcase the new image of Shang Palace's premium Sichuan cuisine. Following the culinary rule of "eat in season and follow the four seasons", we select seasonal flavors of mountains and seas to reproduce the cooking art of Sichuan cuisine of "one dish, one style, one hundred dishes, one hundred flavors".
