Shifen Train Station is located in Pingxi District of New Taipei, Taiwan. Of all stations I have been to, this one is unique and humbling. The railway and the trains are kinda old relative to the new ones in the main city. The open station with blowing fresh air, sky lanterns up in the sky, the smell of stinky tofu and local delis which are situated bedside the railway gives a unique and nostalgic feeling. Im not quite sure if this train railway passes through the Shifen Old Street where the sky lanterns are lit up to fly, I have seen one train passed by while we were doing photo-ops at the railway of Shifen Old Street. The place is surrounded by charmingly old yet vibrant buildings which stood filled with memoirs. If you happen to pass by and take the train going to Jiufen, maybe try the local delicacies in the sidewalk of the railway. Peope here are very kind and honest. This place is a must visit, no doubt at all!

We got off our flight and pre-booked a tripool car driver to take us from the airport to Shifen. Thank goodness it was a clear sunny day. No rain in sight. If you have been here before you know the chances of rain is very high. We walked along the train tracks and saw many people writing their blessings and wishes on lanterns to fly them up into the sky. We opted against it because it’s not environmentally friendly and can be a cause of a lot of forest fires. But we understand it’s a way for tourist and locals to have fun and earn a living. We stopped by a local spot for some Lou Rou rice 🍚. As well as attempted to rent a scooter to see the waterfall. But we just couldn’t balance with two people so we ended up walking to the falls instead. Do not let the people fool you. It does not take an hour and you can’t park your scooter close to the falls anyway. So you can save your money and just walk. It’s beautiful and easy to see all the lovely scenery. We timed it so that on our way back we can catch the train back to Ruifang station. There are a couple stops you can hop out before Ruifang station to check out each different train station. There is also an area where there are lots of cats. Each train station or local attraction you can find stamps. So it’s a good idea to get a notebook and collect as many stamps as you can to look back on where you travelled to.#十分 #台湾 #火车 #Hiking
