[2025 Shipka Attraction] Travel Guide for Shipka Memorial Church (Updated Jun)

The Russian Church in Shipka is located in the upper end of the town of Shipka, a picturesque little town cuddled in the southern slopes of Stara Planina. It is also near Kazanlak - a town known for its roses. The temple was officially opened on September 28, 1902, in the presence of Russian Army generals and many honourable guests. The opening and consecration of the Shipka Memorial Church coincided with the 25-year anniversary of the Battles of Shipka Pass. In 1970, the temple was proclaimed a national monument of culture. The church's bell tower reaches a height of 53 m and its bells, the heaviest of which weighs 12 tons, were cast from the cartridges that were collected after the battles. In the temple itself, the names of the Russian regiments and Bulgarian volunteers are inscribed on 34 marble plates. The #shipka church is located right in the mountain pass of Shipka between the southern and northern #bulgaria and it is famous attraction. It is 10km away from the Thracian thombs of Kazanlak and is also in the way to Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo, so if you travel between these destinations you will definitely pass through the church. It's a great place for kids, has a park, a lot of benches, a small restaurant, souvenir shop, but most of all - the golden radiance and beauty of the church. Beautiful church to visit, really worth a visit while visiting the Valley of Roses and the Valley of the Thracian kings. You need to buy a parking ticket at the souvenir shops (2 BGN).
