[2025 Sibonga Attraction] Travel Guide for Simala Parish Church (Updated May)

When you mention the town of Sibonga in the southern part of Cebu, what comes to mind is the Simala Church, which is flocked by thousands of devotees per day. Whether it is for a petition, thanksgiving, or some other reasons, devotees as far as you can imagine, gather in this place to pray. This has been an icon in itself hosting the miraculous image of the Our Lady of Lindogon. This is probably the most beautiful of all the churches in Cebu. From a distance, it looks like you are out of the country because of its notable structures.

#2023travelwish My recent 2022 trip was memorable because of Simala Shrine. It is part of our Oslob tour in Cebu. The Simala Shrine is a Roman Catholic pilgrimage site. The site hosts the image of the Our Lady Of Lindogon . To enter the church, there is a friendly ramped page path, through the turrets along with an arcaded corridor. To the right side is a lovely view of the Marion Hills. Looking down, the landscaped garden displays the words "We Love Mama Mary". This place is peaceful to utter our prayers. A place to have of wishes surrender to God and hope it make it all come true.

Our Lady of Lindongon Shrine, commonly known as SIMALA SHRINE. A Roman Catholic Pilgrimage Church dedicated to Virgin Mary. Our Lady of Lindogon which is believed to be miraculous by devotees of the Virgin Mary after it is attributed to the healing of those who were afflicted with dengue in the area in 1998 after it reportedly shed tears. The image has reportedly shed tears four more times, the latest being on September 8, 2016. It was built in 1998 by the Marian Monks of Eucharistic Adoration from Pampanga.

Beautiful place to visit especially for devotees. It's actually open for everyone regardless of your religion, just wear something casual or not too revealing. And, just like any other tourist spots in Cebu, this one too is crowded with tourists. Enjoy your Cebu getaways! ☺️#cebuphilippines

Simala Shrine, also known as Monastery of the Holy Eucharist or Our Lady of Lindogon Shrine, is a beautiful place in Cebu, Philippines. I would call Simala Shrine one of the hidden germs of Cebu Island because no tourists I met on the way were aware of it and none of the tourists had it on their itinerary. You wouldn’t expect the construction such as Simala Shrine to exist in a small village in the middle of Cebu Island. Simala Shrine is popular with locals, but as a place to pray, not a tourist attraction. To be honest, I also found it randomly, I was sitting in my hotel, looking at the map of Cebu Island, zooming in and out on the map and eventually I came across Simala Shrine, I looked at the photos and realized that this was the place I really wanted to visit! Next morning I had breakfast and started on my journey to Simala Shrine. Cebu Island has busses circling the island and the guard at my hotel helped me to hop on one. I was enjoying the scenery and looking at the map in my phone so I don’t miss the bus stop. Upon arrival, I realized it was still half an hour walk to Simala Shrine and it was really hot outside, but luckily there were tricycles for hire by the road, I told the driver where I needed to go and I was there in no time. When I finally got to Simala Shrine, I couldn’t believe my eyes, the place was astonishing and magnificent. The building complex was a masterpiece of architecture residing in the rural area of Philippines. There were many locals, most of them were standing in line to see the statue of Mary. I spent more than an hour wondering around and admiring architecture of Simala Shrine. I was all alone with no one to take my photo, it was truly a special experience to me. I love architecture, and being there made me feel extremely happy and special. As you stroll along the long bridge/hall towards the church, the view is mesmerizing and leaves you at awe! The devotion and dedication of the people to create a shrine or rather a palace for the Blessed Virgin Mary is indubious and should be commended. The scale of it is very large and you can see intricate details as you circle the area. Just enjoy the view and if you are willing, you can light up a candle and pray for the things you want.

Among the myriads of reasons, people (including non-Catholics or Christians) come to see for curiosity’s sake. They are curious to see the structure, design, or architecture of the whole place. The place is where the Monastery of the Holy Eucharist where Marian monks live, work and pray. The monks built and established the place with hope that people will come and pray. Some say that the whole place is a reminiscent of European Cathedrals, which is obviously visible through its architecture and all the things that the place contains. Simala Shrine is still growing and I wonder why. And it is not becoming more beautiful, just more concrete.The original setup was good and draws many devotees. There were a lot of locals there! It was a very beautiful church! It's in Simala, far from Cebu City! It was cheap to get there by public bus! I recommend taking the bus from Cebu City while referring to the map app! It was very cheap, less than P200 one way. It is about a two-hour drive from Cebu City. There was no entrance fee. Perhaps because it was the beginning of the year, it was quite crowded. There was a particularly long line to enter the church, so I gave up going inside. Please note that since it is a church, you cannot enter in revealing clothing. Candles are sold, and there is a place where you can make offerings outside and pray. The exterior of the church is as impressive as visiting a castle in medieval Europe. It was larger than I imagined, and very impressive. In addition, the building and scenery are beautiful, so it is also a photogenic spot. It is said that wishes will come true through the Virgin Mary, and although I was not able to go there, there seems to be a real statue of Mary on the second floor of the main hall. On the way back from whale shark watching in Oslob, we stopped by the Simala Church. This church is one of the most beautiful churches in Cebu (although it's outside the city). The exterior features stunning and enchanting architecture. Inside, the sanctuary is adorned with paintings of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and various saints.
