#appreciate the snow Iceland has always been on my life's bucket list. After going there once, I still can't forget it. This time I went to Iceland. I was very lucky to encounter the local weather orange alert as soon as I landed. I spent almost half of the trip with a blizzard. The roadside was covered with white snow, and you could enjoy the snow at any time. But I was lucky enough to have the sun show up most of the time when I went to the scenic spots! In total, we spent two days and one night on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Black basalt Gerðuberg Cliffs-Church Hill-Stone Bridge-Black Church-Ytri Tunga Seal Resting Point It is worth reminding that there are very few toilets along this route. If you are lucky enough to encounter a toilet, you must use it first. The black basalt rocks are very handsome when there is no snow! But when I arrived that day, it had already turned into OREO ice cream🤣 (please refer to the last picture) After you park your car at the seal resting spot and walk in, you can see a lot of seals lazily basking in the sun. #outdooradventures Exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula on horseback was an incredible way to see the Icelandic countryside! 🐴 I joined a small group tour that took us through lush green fields and along the rocky coastline, all while riding Icelandic horses, which are small but mighty and so sure-footed! 🏞️ The ride cost about 9,000 ISK and lasted around two hours, which was the perfect amount of time to really soak in the scenery and bond with these gentle creatures. Our guide was fantastic, sharing stories about the local area and explaining how these horses are a special breed known for their unique gait, called the tölt. Riding along with the ocean breeze in my face, I felt totally at peace. We even caught glimpses of the Snæfellsjökull glacier in the distance, which looked like something out of a fairytale, and made a quick stop at a black sand beach. 🌊 The horses handled the terrain so well, and it felt like they were just as happy to be out exploring as we were! After the ride, I took a short drive to the nearby Kirkjufell mountain, which is iconic in its own right and perfect for snapping a few more photos. 📸 If you find yourself in Snæfellsnes, I highly recommend hopping on one of these horse rides. It's a beautiful and relaxing way to see the landscape and really connect with Iceland's natural beauty. Spending New Year's in Iceland Exploring glacier caves, witnessing the Northern Lights, riding Icelandic horses, and enjoying New Year's fireworks—this trip was filled with nature and left me completely satisfied. I hesitated for a moment, thinking winter might be too cold, but it was absolutely worth it! There are so many photos I couldn't share here, so I highly recommend taking a tour to fully experience Iceland's stunning nature! The tours I joined were: - A 2-night, 3-day East Coast tour - A 1-night, 2-day Snæfellsnes Peninsula tour Both were incredibly enjoyable! Seeing the Northern Lights depends on luck, but I managed to see them on about half of the nights during my stay—three nights in total! 11-Day Norway, Iceland, and Denmark Trip Cost Breakdown Here's a breakdown of my trip to the three most popular Nordic countries during the Lunar New Year. First, I should mention that I went with a friend, so the prices are split between the two of us. I consider myself to be quite frugal, so we stayed in hostels and shared rooms in all three countries, trying not to waste a single penny. 1️⃣✈💰CNY 9,625 for three countries. We went during the 2025 Lunar New Year, but booked in May 2024. The price of flights doubled after that, so we saved CNY 6,000–7,000. 🎫 I recommend booking flights to European countries in advance. It's actually cheaper to travel abroad during the Lunar New Year. The flights to these three countries were quite cheap. 2️⃣Hotels 🏨 I mostly booked hostels or budget hotels, which cost around CNY 100 per person per day. The prices in the photos are for two people, so divide by two. I shared a room with a few friends in Iceland, which cost CNY 500 per person per day. We could also cook together, which saved us some money on food. Iceland > Norway > Denmark. Any room in Iceland costs over CNY 1,000, and they're very small. I highly recommend the Fossil Hotel, which is right outside Stop 12. All the tours meet here, so it's very convenient and not expensive. 3️⃣Food + transportation, CNY 500 per person per day. Prices are highest in Iceland and Norway. Prices in Denmark are about the same as in China. We spent over CNY 1,000 on food every day. A taxi ride in Norway costs CNY 500, so try to use public transportation as much as possible. Public transportation is free for locals in Norway. 🆓 We took the bus a few times and no one checked our tickets. 4️⃣Tours. The most expensive part of the trip was the one- and two-day tours. The whale 🐳 tour cost CNY 2,000, and the two-day glacier lake tour cost CNY 4,000. Other one-day tours cost several hundred, such as the aurora, Snæfellsnes Peninsula, and Golden Circle tours. We spent over CNY 20,000 on fixed costs before we even left for Northern Europe. Once we got there, we could only eat expensive Western food every day. I regret not bringing instant noodles. Luckily, we cooked with our friends at the hostel in Iceland. The smoke alarm even went off. We roasted chicken and lamb ourselves. Chinese food is the best. We spent a total of CNY 27,000. Compared to the CNY 50,000–100,000 trips to Iceland I saw online, I think I did a good job saving money.

June 29, Hvammstangi - Snaefellsnes Peninsula - Reykjavik Today's itinerary: Snaefellsnes Peninsula, including Kirkjufell, the Red Church, and Arnarstapi. The Snaefellsnes Peninsula is known as a miniature Iceland, where you can see volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls, black sand beaches, charming fishing villages, and abundant wildlife. The mountain is also famous for French writer Jules Verne's novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. After driving for about 3 hours from the hotel, we finally arrived at the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. The scenery along the way was beautiful, with snow-capped mountains, the sea, and tundra. First stop, Kirkjufell Kirkjufell, which translates to "Church Mountain", is more commonly known as "Kirkjufell" because of its resemblance to a fallen straw hat. Although Kirkjufell is only 460 meters high, its unique shape and stunning surroundings have made it one of the iconic landmarks of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It has also been selected by many professional photographers as "one of the 27 reasons why Iceland is the most beautiful country in the world". Kirkjufell is surrounded by a beach and a beautiful walking path. We didn't climb it, but just took photos at the foot of Kirkjufell. The classic spot is to take a photo with the waterfall at the foot of Kirkjufell as the foreground. The waterfall is picturesque and echoes the shape of Kirkjufell, making it a great photo opportunity. Second stop, Ingjaldshólskirkja, the red house for eye tests I found the prototype of the red house for eye tests in Iceland. Do nearsighted friends know this place? The red house in the eye test machine in China is the red-roofed church on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in Iceland. Sunny sky, blue sea, large patches of purple lupines along the road, a straight path with ups and downs, and the little red house at the end of the path nestled at the foot of the snow-capped mountains, as beautiful as a fairy tale. Third stop, Arnarstapi Arnarstapi is a small village in the southern part of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, where we had lunch. Walking along the coastline, you can see the magnificent sea cliffs. Due to their romantic and unique shape, they are also known as "Kissing Rocks". If you continue along the trail for another 10 minutes, you can see the Western Stone Bridge. You can stand on the stone bridge and take photos. Due to time constraints, we didn't go there. There are also other attractions such as Ytri Tunga, the seal beach, and Búðakirkja, the black church. Unfortunately, we didn't go to any of them, which is my biggest regret on this trip to Iceland. I only found out about these attractions after I returned home. However, some friends didn't see any seals even after they went there. Whether you see them or not depends on luck. The seal photos are super cute. In the evening, we stayed at the Konvin Hotel by Reykjavik Keflavik Airport, a hotel near the airport, convenient for catching our flight the next day.
