[2025 Kamikawa ] Travel Guide for Sounkyo onsen ice festival (Updated Apr)

#MarchGoodPlaces2025 I thought that there wouldn't be many people visiting at the end of the festival🫠 Unexpectedly, the festival cooperates with many travel agencies. Many tour groups from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan will come to watch the event. There is a large multi-storey free parking lot opposite the Icefall Festival venue. After parking, you can go to the convenience store to replenish your energy before entering the venue😆 The venue mainly displays a variety of ice sculptures☃️ and the colorful spotlights make it even more dreamy. The local ice sculptures are mainly shaped by spraying water, so they look like flowing ice waterfalls💧There are many check-in spots in the venue, such as the igloo shrine for praying for good luck, the heart-shaped ice seat, the iceman model, and the highlight fireworks The fireworks officially started at 8:30 🌠 and lasted for about 5 minutes. Sparks flew behind the huge ice castle, which was quite shocking ☄️ It was worth visiting after a long drive.

Sounkyo Onsen Ice Waterfall Festival Sapporo and Lake Shikotsu are famous for their snow festivals in Hokkaido, but Sounkyo Onsen also holds its own ice waterfall festival! The illuminated ice waterfall was fantastic and very beautiful✨ It is only held at night, so you must stay overnight at Sounkyo Onsen, but the hot springs after the freezing cold ice waterfall festival are exceptional♨️ The hotel shuttle buses run to the venue, so it's easy to get there. You can enjoy snow scenery from the ropeway or skiing at nearby Kurodake, so you can enjoy it from day to night⛷ Sounkyo Onsen can be accessed by bus from Asahikawa, Sapporo, and Kitami, so you can make various plans depending on your schedule before and after! Some hotels even offer free shuttle buses from Asahikawa! The man at the front desk was coughing and looked very sick, so please let him rest! The hotel itself was very old and run down in many places. Dinner was very tasty, with the Wagyu beef stew, but the rest was unremarkable and cold.
