10-Day Self-Driving Tour in New Zealand's South Island
The ten-day self-driving tour of New Zealand's South Island allowed us to fully experience this beautiful land. Although we encountered delays at the beginning because my girlfriend's flight was cancelled, we were not discouraged. Instead, we looked forward to this trip even more.
On the first day, we went to Greymouth, visited Stonehenge, and felt the mysterious atmosphere of the ancient civilization. Along National Highway 76 in New Zealand's South Island, we admired the magnificent snow-capped mountains around us and took in the natural beauty. Finally, we arrived at our hotel in Greymouth and rested for the night in preparation for our next adventure.
The next day, we headed to Fox Glacier and although the road was rough, we were able to enjoy the stunning views of the glacier. Although it's not possible to take a helicopter to the snowy mountains, the glacier tour was still amazing. At night, we stayed in the small town of Haast, looked up at the starry night sky, and felt the unique natural beauty of New Zealand.
On the third day, we arrived at the charming town of Wanaka. Here, we went to the salmon fishing ground to try fishing and successfully caught a two-kilogram salmon. This was our first time fishing, and we felt the gift of nature. We then headed to Queenstown, enjoying the stunning snow-capped mountains and breathtaking scenery along the way. On our second day in Queenstown, we experienced the outdoor hot springs and enjoyed the gift of nature. In the afternoon, we visited the ice bar and experienced the unique environment inside the ice and snow house.
The originally planned skydiving activity was forced to be cancelled due to weather and environmental issues, but we were not discouraged. Instead, we sampled the famous local fergburger and visited various attractions in Queenstown. On the fourth day, we visited Arrowtown and fed the goats in Arrowbelle, which was an interesting experience. On the way back, we also visited the Gem Alpaca Farm and observed the life of the alpacas.
New Zealand's starry sky is beautiful and spectacular because the area is free of light pollution. Although we were unable to see the aurora, we were still amazed by the beauty of the starry sky. Finally, we chose to return to Hong Kong during Christmas because shops are closed during Christmas and we hope to spend this special holiday with our family.
