#myhiddengems I’ll share with you my spots for perfect pictures in Riga, the capital of Latvia. It is definitely worth to visit during summer time to get great weather and don’t spend much money 1. GO BUCK WILD IN OLD TOWN Out of all the picturesque things to do in Riga, walking around in Old Town takes the cake. Everywhere you turn, there are colorful shop fronts, intricate architecture and tiny streets. It's picture perfect overload, and overwhelment is inevitable. Prepare accordingly. 2. RIDE TO THE TOP OF ST. PETER'S CHURCH Not gonna lie, this is probably going to be your most expensive pic of the trip. It costs €9 to ride the elevator to the top of St. Peter's Church but it's a small price to pay for having the best photo on your friends' feeds and the best view of the city (but who cares about the latter.. am I right?). Circle around the tower for a 360° view of Riga and see everything from the Freedom Tower to the Central Market and of course, Old Town. PRO TIP: Visit just before the sun goes down for the the best light and hopefully a beautiful sunset backdrop. 3. WALK DOWN ALBERTA IELA Riga is known to have the finest collection of Art Nouveau buildings in the world. To get the most bang for your buck, head to Albert Street 4. TAKE A STROLL THROUGH VERMANES GARDEN I'm not usually the type to seek out parks when I travel but Vermanes Garden was especially beautiful. You can sit on the dock, walk along tree-lined paths, or even rent a small boat. 5. GET COZY AT ASPARA TEA HOUSE Apsara Tea House has the right ingredients for a perfect Instagram picture: 1. tea/coffee 2. floor pillows 3. a chandelier. The tea house also has floor to ceiling windows and is located right on the river which gives you a great backdrop.

It was a trip to Latvia during the weekend. Upon arrival we explored around the Old Town Riga (Vecrīga).The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its medieval architecture and cobblestone streets. I would recommend you to visit house of the Blackheads, Riga Cathedral and St. Peter’s Church. 📍Riga, Latvia We then walked around the Art Nouveau District. Riga boasts one of the world's largest collections of Art Nouveau buildings. If you only have limited time. The “must see” one would be Alberta iela and Elizabetes iela. We also visited the famous restaurant, Vincents. A fine dining with a modern twist on Latvian cuisine. We had the Tasting menu, featuring local and seasonal ingredients. It was built in the early 13th century, the castle offers a glimpse into medieval Latvian history. 📍Address: Pils iela 18, Sigulda, LV-2150, Latvia We also spend sometimes to explore around the Gauja National Park. If you are there, you can do activities like hiking, exploring Gutmanis Cave and Bobsleigh track. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📍Sigulda, Latvia We also explored the Cēsis Castle. A well-preserved medieval castle dating back to the 13th century 🏰 📍Pils iela 9, Cēsis, LV-4101, Latvia If you have extra time, I would the you to visit Hotel Cēsis Restaurant. It is a traditional Latvian and European cuisine. #2024mapped Riga was never in my travel plan because of its relative low fame until Emirates made Dubai-Riga route especially cheap. And from there I had the opportunity to discover how lovely this city actually is, for its unique attractions and local delicacies. Places to go: 1) Riga Nativity of Christ Orthodox Cathedral - the golden cap was one-of-a-kind among European churches 2) The Freedom Monument - a meaningful and delicate monument with marching soldiers 3) St. Peter's Church - the best observatory for Riga skyline 4) Reconocimiento UNESCO al Centro Histórico de Riga 5) House of the Black Heads Restaurants to go: 1) LIDO - most authentic and affordable local cuisine in canteen style 2) Rocketbean - delicious coffee and dessert 3) Kalve Espresso Room - best coffee in town 4) Riviera - Michelin guide restaurant under €20 5) Italissimo - non-Michelin Italian restaurant that’s local favourite Extra reasons to fly to Riga: It is connected by 5hr bus trip from Vilnius, which is often priced as low as €10 when booked in advance. In the recent year, flying into Riga with Emirates is cheap (yet with exceptional service), so it’s definitely an option to watch for. And Riga-Northern Europe have traditionally been the cheaper flying routes, which makes Riga quite an ideal city for stopover.

Seeing the Old Town of Riga from the sea to the Riga Bay of the Baltic Sea is a unique experience. St. Peter's Basilica (Pictures 1 and 2), the tallest building in the Old Town of Riga, can be climbed up to see the full view of the Old Town of Riga, but unfortunately our tour group did not arrange it. (Following the tour is just a quick tour) Riga Cathedral (Pictures 3 and 4), Riga Cathedral, Dome Church, St. Mary’s Cathedral, there are many names, and I don’t know which one is used by the locals. Riga Railway Bridge (Figure 5). The Latvian Academy of Sciences building (Figure 6) was built in the 1950s after World War II. It is a Stalin-style building; the three half-domed buildings are their largest farmers market. Presidential Residence in Riga (Figure 7). Figure 8-12, sea scenery and the old city from the sea perspective. Figure 13-16 shows the two sides of the Daugava River, the mother river of Riga. The cruise ship gets on the Daugava River and then goes back and forth to the Gulf of Riga.

As the largest of the Baltic capitals, Riga captivated me with its magnificent Old Town, where cobblestone streets and medieval buildings created a storybook atmosphere. The towering spires of St. Peter’s Church and the House of the Blackheads stood out as highlights of the city’s rich heritage. Exploring further, I was amazed by Riga’s Art Nouveau district, where ornate and sometimes eerie façades showcased intricate designs and faces seemingly frozen in stone. It was our second time to Riga, Latvia. During our time in Riga, we explored this charming city and discovered some fantastic places to visit. We visited the House of the Black Heads and were amazed by its stunning Gothic architecture and rich history. The entrance fee is required , but it's worth every cent. 📍Rātslaukums 7 💰€6 We then took a stroll through the Old Town. We explored the narrow cobblestone streets, and every corner seemed to have a new surprise, from quaint shops to beautiful churches. Don’t miss the St. Peter's Church. We went up the tower and enjoy panoramic views of Riga. 📍Skārņu iela 19 💰€9 We also went to Lido Alus Seta for lunch. We had a hearty Latvian lunch here, including traditional dishes like grey peas with bacon 🥓 and pork schnitzel. The prices are reasonable and worth to try! 💰 €10-15 per person 📍Tirgonu iela 6 We also visited the Riga Central Market. One of Europe's largest and most vibrant markets. We loved exploring the various sections – from fresh produce to local crafts. It's a great place to try some smoked fish or pick up local cheeses 🧀 📍Nēģu iela 7 We also have our dinner at 3 Pavāru Restorāns. We had a fantastic meal here. I would recommend you to try Baltic herring tartare and the venison fillet 🥰 💰€20-35 per person. 📍Torņa iela 4 We also went to Latvian National Museum of Art 🖼️ We found the collection of Latvian art to be fascinating, especially the pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries. 💰 €6 📍Jaņa Rozentāla laukums 1 We also took a walk in Esplanade Park and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We visited the nearby Nativity of Christ Cathedral, a stunning Orthodox church with beautiful interiors. 📍Brīvības bulvāris 23 We also took a day trip to Jūrmala, a beautiful seaside resort town just 30 minutes from Riga by train (tickets cost around €2). We spent a relaxing morning on the beach and explored the charming wooden houses along Jomas Street. Then we headed back to Riga and visit Riga Castle 🏰, the residence of the Latvian President. While we couldn't enter, we enjoyed walking around the beautiful grounds. 📍Pils laukums 3 Last but not least, I would recommend you to visit Bibliotēka No1 Restorān. St Peters Church is a fantastic Lutheran church in the heart of Riga. It is a gothic architectural design that dates back to the 13th century, and has been rebuilt several times since then. The church is located in the Old Town and is the tallest in Riga. Its tower offers great views over the city. Entry to the tower costs just 9 Euro, and is a great price that goes towards the upkeep of the church.
