Visited the State Guest House in the middle of summer during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was so hot that some people collapsed from heatstroke. There is little shade, so it seems best to consider the season when you visit. After a guided tour of the Japanese-style annex and garden, you can freely visit the main building. It costs 2,000 yen in total. It's not free. On the way there, you enter through a side gate that looks like a back door, but on the way back, you leave through the main gate. Security was tight in front of Gakushuin Elementary School and in front of the main gate of the State Guest House. Is it always like that because it was during the Olympics? I often pass through Yotsuya Station and transfer there, but I never thought there would be a place like this nearby. AKASAKA PALACE It’s one of the State Guesthouses in Japan. It was fascinating to explore a place that was intricately designed and structured. I felt the peace while roaming around the area. It’s so clean and I enjoyed the breathing fresh air because there are trees and plants almost anywhere. I am extremely amazed on how brilliant are the minds of the people who worked on creating this majestic beauty.

#October travel support event Akasakai Palace State Guest House in the heart of Tokyo. They say it's still used for events to welcome foreign dignitaries. They also display photos of events by visiting foreign heads of state, and you can occasionally see the faces of our country's presidents. They don't let you take photos inside, so there are only photos of the outside.

The State Guest House was built in 1909 as the Crown Prince's Palace on the site of the former Kishu Tokugawa family residence. It was built with the combined efforts of top architects and artisans of the time, and the State Guest House Akasaka Palace, the main garden fountain, the east and west barracks, and the main gate are designated as national treasures. It is the only Western-style palace in Japan in the neo-baroque style, and is the place where kings, presidents, prime ministers, and other dignitaries from around the world are welcomed to Japan. You can actually visit the State Guest House without making a reservation. You only have to check your belongings, and you don't even need to show any identification. The garden from the national treasure main gate to the main building is the front garden, which is the largest square and offers a panoramic view of the entire main building. There are also food trucks and other attractions, so you can enjoy a light meal while looking at the main building. It's not very crowded, so you can spend a relaxing time in Tokyo. You can go all the way to the entrance of the main building, and the iron door at the front entrance has a chrysanthemum flower engraved on the top and a paulownia crest engraved in the center. On the roof of the building is a warrior clad in armor, perhaps symbolizing Japan in a Western-style building (it feels a bit odd). There is also a celestial globe and four sacred birds on display. Behind the main building is the main garden, where there is a fountain pond, a national treasure. The fountain has a cool griffin with the upper body of an eagle and the lower body of a lion. The State Guest House was originally built in 1909 and was renovated as a guest house in 1974. To commemorate its 50th anniversary this year, photography in the Kacho-no-Ma room of the main building has been permitted for a limited time. The Kacho-no-Ma room is used for banquets and has a calm atmosphere. It features three chandeliers, each weighing 1,125 kg, and a ceiling adorned with 24 oil paintings and 12 gold leaf paintings based on a light blue theme. At the back, there is a French-made cabinet (mirror) with a chrysanthemum crest engraved on the top. The walls are decorated with 30 cloisonné enamel pieces of flowers and birds. Additionally, the door handles are intricately carved, including four figures shining in gold. Everything in this room is top-notch, making it truly a palace.
