Stone Umbrella
#MarchGoodPlaces2025
Stone Umbrella is located 10 kilometers north of Chenggong Township (105.8K on Provincial Highway No. 11). It stretches from the coast to the cape in the sea, about one kilometer long. The cape has a little-known name, called "Shikongbi". There is a very strange landscape on Shikongbi called the Balanced Rock, which is a relatively thin and long rock hanging upward, supporting a larger rock. The special balance structure formed looks like an umbrella and is called the Stone Umbrella. This is because the textures of the rocks above and below are different. The upper part is a harder coral reef rock, and the lower part is a slightly weaker conglomerate. As a result of differential erosion over time, the lower part is thinner and the upper part is coarser.
The most attractive thing on Shikongbi is the "stone umbrella" that looks like an umbrella due to the different erosion resistance of the rocks. The umbrella surface is hard coral reef, while the umbrella column is softer conglomerate. The scenery here is beautiful and it is a great place for photography.
