Having visited Weishan five times already, this trip was specifically to experience the Weishan YiHe Yunxi Jinshi Mansion Cultural Boutique Hotel. As the first YiHe brand hotel outside of Nanjing, it opened in July of this year and is currently the only high-end boutique hotel in Weishan Ancient Town. 1. The hotel is located in a prime spot on the old street of Weishan Ancient Town, right between Gongchen Tower and Xinggong Tower. The hotel was renovated from the former residence of Zhao Guotai, who achieved the rank of Jinshi in the Guangxu Renchen Imperial Examination in the 18th year of the Guangxu Emperor's reign (1892). The renovation, led by Chen Yifeng, the chief architect of the China Academy of Architecture, took seven years to complete. It preserves the original architectural style and charm while incorporating modern elements. The murals on the walls, the mortise-and-tenon windows, and the roof beams all reflect the original appearance of this Jinshi mansion. 2. Along the central axis of the hotel are four courtyards representing "spring, summer, autumn, and winter." Each courtyard houses guest rooms and offers unique scenery. Strolling through the courtyards, every step reveals a new vista: green bamboo, stone pillars, flowing water, moss, and ancient trees, all contributing to the beauty of the ancient architecture. 3. The YiHe brand is known for its high culinary standards, and the YiHe Yunxi Jinshi Mansion in Weishan is no exception. The hotel's only restaurant, Qiongyan Hall, serves exquisite and creative Yunnan and Huaiyang cuisine. Chef Liang, a local from Weishan born in the 1990s, skillfully uses local ingredients to create innovative dishes with a local flavor. 6. I'd always heard about the unique charm of Weishan Ancient Town in Dali, and this holiday, I finally set foot on this ancient land, embarking on an unforgettable journey. Upon entering Weishan Ancient Town, the first thing that caught my eye were the well-preserved ancient streets and alleys. The slate pavements, polished smooth by time, seemed to whisper stories of the past millennia. The buildings lining the streets were mostly traditional timber-framed structures, their upturned eaves and intricate brackets exuding an air of rustic elegance. The walls of these old houses were somewhat mottled, but it was precisely these marks that bore witness to the town's historical changes and the passage of time. Strolling along the streets, I was enveloped by enticing aromas. Following my nose, I discovered the source: local snack shops. I eagerly entered one and ordered a bowl of the famous Weishan "One Noodle." I watched as the chef skillfully stretched the dough, the noodles dancing in their hands like living things, quickly transforming into a single, long, thin strand. The cooked noodles were served in a bowl, topped with a fragrant broth containing meat sauce, chopped green onions, and vegetables. With one bite, the noodles proved chewy and flavorful, the broth rich and delicious, leaving a lingering taste. Continuing my wander through the town, I arrived at Gongchen Tower. This ancient gate tower stood majestically, an imposing sight. The vermilion pillars and painted beams on the tower remained vibrant, showcasing the superb craftsmanship of the artisans of the past. Standing atop the tower, I gazed into the distance, taking in the panoramic view of the town, a sea of gray-tiled roofs shimmering under the sunlight. Passing through Gongchen Tower, I found myself on another bustling street. Numerous traditional workshops lined both sides, specializing in tie-dye, blacksmithing, and wood carving. Particularly intrigued by tie-dye, I entered a shop. The shelves were filled with tie-dye works, the blue and white patterns brimming with artistry, depicting flowers, butterflies, and abstract geometric shapes. The shopkeeper, a kind elderly woman, enthusiastically explained the tie-dye process and even let me try my hand at a simple creation. With her help, I made my own tie-dye handkerchief as a unique souvenir. In the afternoon, the sun grew languid. I found a teahouse in the town and settled in. The teahouse was filled with local elders, chatting softly or leisurely playing chess. I ordered a pot of local green tea, the leaves unfurling in the boiling water, releasing a delicate fragrance. I savored the tea while gazing at the ancient street scene outside the window, immersing myself in the town's tranquil atmosphere. As evening approached, the setting sun cast a golden glow over the town. The nightlife of Weishan was just beginning. Lanterns lit up one by one, their soft light adding a touch of romance. I followed the crowd to the town's central square, where a local folk event was taking place. People dressed in traditional costumes danced joyfully, their songs and laughter echoing through the town. My day trip to Weishan Ancient Town was coming to an end, but the beautiful scenery, delicious food, and unique cultural atmosphere were etched in my memory. Here, there was none of the hustle and bustle of the big city, only tranquility, simplicity, and a thousand-year-old charm. In the 16th year of Zhenyuan in the Tang Dynasty, the costumes worn by the Nanzhao dance troupe were tie-dyed. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the dyeing and weaving skills in the Bai ethnic area of Erhai Lake reached a very high level, and dyeing guilds emerged. 3⃣️- Production Process - Tying: On the selected fabric, according to the desired pattern, methods such as crumpling, folding, rolling, and twisting are used to shape the fabric. Built in 1895, it's a full 130 years old. The echoes of scholars and the spirit of literati are still palpable within its meticulously restored walls. The YiHe team dedicated seven years to its restoration, preserving every brick and tile as a testament to time. 🏡 Stepping into a 130-Year-Old Story Pushing open the gate is like stepping into a fold in time. The courtyard unfolds in a three-entry, four-courtyard layout, each themed after a season. Within, you'll discover Qing Dynasty lotus flower pillars, "bottle saddles" collected from Hui villages, late Qing Dynasty mortise and tenon window lattices, and even a mural of "Fisherman's Gain" from 1895. Every detail is captivating, inviting you to pause and admire.
