Tokyo, Japan - Full of local life: Sunamachi Ginza
#TokyoTravel #100WaysToTravel
#Sunamachi-ginza, known as one of the three major Ginza shopping streets in Tokyo, is a place full of downtown common people's style. Compared with the fresh and hipster style of #Yanaka-ginza, Sunamachi-ginza has added a bit more fireworks. When I visited in the evening, I mistakenly thought I had come to a sunset market. There was not a single tourist vibe at all. It was so local!
Transportation to Sunamachi Ginza is quite inconvenient. It takes 25-30 minutes to walk to Kitasuna in Koto District, whether from Nishi-Ojima Station on the tram or Minamisunacho Station on the subway. Moreover, you have to change trains and lines to reach these two remote stations, which is really troublesome. If the hotel's washing machine didn't require a 2-hour wait, I wouldn't have made a special trip to come here!
Visiting Samachi Ginza really feels like visiting a morning market or a dusk market. Almost all the shops sell daily necessities, including groceries, fishmongers and meat stalls, fresh fruit and vegetable or cooked food stalls. There are also many sales where you can get bargains. It is really suitable for mothers and grandmas to visit! Because I came here in the evening after get off work, I actually saw many women riding vegetable basket carts to buy vegetables. It was a real downtown atmosphere!
However, the food here is really cheap, the cooked food stalls look very simple, but the taste is very homely and delicious! I picked a roadside oden stall and packed it directly into a plastic bag to take back to the hotel. The croquettes looked delicious too. People who like to visit old-fashioned vegetable markets will probably love it.
