Deserts
The Taklimakan Desert, known as the "Sea of Death", is the tenth largest desert in the world and a mobile desert. Among the major deserts in the world, the Taklimakan Desert is a very mysterious and attractive one. The types of dunes in the desert are complex and diverse. The complex-type sand hills and ridges are like giant dragons entrenched on the ground; the tower-shaped dunes, whose height and scale eclipse the Egyptian pyramids. Various honeycomb-shaped, feather-shaped, fish-scale-shaped dunes are unpredictable and majestic. During the day, the Taklimakan is scorching hot, the silver sand is dazzling, and the temperature of the sand surface is sometimes as high as 70-80 ℃. The vigorous evaporation makes the surface scenery erratic. Desert travelers often see the hazy lake and water color, clear lake surface, rippling water, and whirling tree shadows in the distance. This is the "mirage" phantom in the Taklimakan Desert. The desert has two tall sand dunes with distinct red and white, named "Holy Sepulchre Mountain", which are composed of red sandstone and white gypsum respectively. The wind-eroded mushrooms on the Holy Sepulchre Mountain are peculiarly shaped, about 5 meters high, and can accommodate more than 10 people under the huge cover. The Taklimakan Desert Highway is a grand project to conquer the "Sea of Death". This is the road that is usually taken as a general tourist across the Taklimakan Desert. The explorers will choose two routes with Yutian or Moyu as the starting point (or end point) and Aksu as the end point (or starting point) as the crossing in the sense of exploration. Among the two routes, the route along the Great River in Yutian is very difficult. .
