The Temple of Hephaestus is located in the ruins of the ancient market. It is one of the best preserved ancient buildings in Greece. It is dedicated to Hephaestus, the god of fire and casting in ancient Greek mythology. There are 34 columns around the temple, and nine stories from "The Twelve Deeds of Hephaestus" are carved around its roof. The Temple of Hephaestus, built in 449 BC, is very similar in appearance to the Parthenon and is still very well preserved. Like other monuments in Greece, this temple has suffered many hardships. From the 7th century to 1834, it was used as a Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, and then it was converted into a museum until it became a monument in 1934 and was used for archaeological research. Now the temple can only be visited outside, and the inside is not open to the outside world.
