#2024Travel Review Have you ever received a ticket issued by hand? My first domestic flight experience in Myanmar, #Bagan Nyaung-U Airport is a very special small airport. The terminal is shaped like a Buddhist temple and the small lobby looks modern. However, all the boarding procedures are manual! After checking in at the check-in counter, you can directly issue your ticket by handwriting! You read that right, the flight number, time, and boarding person’s name are all handwritten with a signature pen. It’s really cool! During the baggage delivery process, a difficult-to-use X-ray scanning machine is used, and a small truck will be picked up directly after the inspection. Then the flight schedule was written directly on the whiteboard! Oh my God, it’s so cool and ancient! But don’t worry, because there are only two flights during this period, and the staff will issue identification stickers and stick them on your clothes, so you don’t have to worry about taking the wrong flight! I was startled again. When it came time to board the plane, the airport was obviously very small, so we had to arrange a car to take us to the apron, which took less than 1 minute! Although it is a small twin-propeller aircraft, it is quite comfortable to sit on. By the way, there are no reserved seats, you can sit freely! The first time I took a plane, I chose free seating. It was so cool! Since the flight from Bagan to Yangon has a stopover in Mandalay, after the plane lands in Mandalay, you will see people getting off the plane and people getting on the plane. Bagan is renowned for its sunrise and sunset views, and the best place to enjoy these is undoubtedly Shwesandaw Pagoda, the tallest pagoda in Bagan. The pagoda has five levels, each with a terrace to linger on, but you have to climb steep stairs first. Those afraid of heights might feel shaky, but once you reach the top, it's worth the effort. Shwesandaw Pagoda covers a large area, and because of its height and the lack of tall buildings in Bagan, the view from the top is excellent. You can even see the Irrawaddy River. Every day at sunrise and sunset, the place is packed with people eager to witness the beautiful scenery. During sunrise, you can also see hot air balloons drifting into the sky, which is quite a lucky sight. The pagoda is a standard red-brick structure, with the bottom two levels in red brick and the top three levels painted white, making it quite striking. Besides the panoramic views, the pagoda also houses relics of Buddha's hair and a large reclining Buddha statue, which are worth seeing. However, after the pandemic, for safety and heritage preservation reasons, climbing pagodas in Bagan has been completely banned. Climbing Shwesandaw Pagoda to enjoy the sunrise and sunset is now a thing of the past, which is quite a pity.

After visiting the founding pagoda of the Bagan Kingdom, we arrived at the last Burmese-style pagoda of Bagan, Htilominlo Pagoda, built by King Htilominlo in 1218. The spire stands prominently on the vast plain, making it quite conspicuous. Htilominlo Pagoda is a typical red brick structure, with a pyramid-like spire symbolizing Mount Meru, the sacred mountain in Buddhism. The main tower is tall and majestic, surrounded by smaller towers on all four sides, symbolizing the four corners of the earth. The corridors, statues, murals, and reliefs are adorned with brick carvings on the walls, and there are relief Buddha statues under the walls, resembling a fine piece of craftsmanship. When we visited, the bougainvillea was in full bloom, and the pagoda was surrounded by red and white bougainvillea flowers, making it a perfect spot for social media photos. Usually, there are vendors gathered around large pagoda temples. After worshipping the Buddha statues, you can browse the handicrafts and buy a cup of freshly squeezed sugarcane juice to quench your thirst and cool off.

Visited the Shwesandaw Pagoda, the founding pagoda of the Bagan Kingdom, on a hot afternoon. It is now one of the four major pagodas in Myanmar. The scale and grandeur are truly astonishing, and even the term 'resplendent' falls short of describing its magnificence. To enter the Shwesandaw Pagoda, you need to pass through a long corridor that provides some shade, making the walk relatively comfortable. However, once you reach the pagoda grounds, you have to take off your shoes! The ground is scorching hot, and you can only stand in the shaded areas outside to admire the pagoda, or else your feet will burn! Besides the resplendent main pagoda, there are three other highlights: a statue of the Naga descending from the sky, a small puddle that reflects the pagoda, and a father and son Buddha statue. Unfortunately, the top of the pagoda was under maintenance during our visit, covered with white cloth, making it look like it was wrapped in snow, which was quite cute. The Shwesandaw Pagoda, said to be the prototype of Myanmar's pagodas, features a three-tiered square base, an octagonal platform, and a bell-shaped tower, exuding stability and solemnity. Each of the four sides has a large niche housing a 4-meter tall standing Buddha.

#100 Ways to Travel After visiting Mani Sirhu Market, a traditional market in Nyaung U, Myanmar, I unexpectedly discovered a restaurant, Sanon Restaurant. Through the arches of the pagoda with red brick spiers in Myanmar, it has the upscale feel of a resort, which is very different from the traditional market on the dirt floor. Sanon Restaurant is not just a simple restaurant, but was established by a local catering school to train local disadvantaged young people to engage in the catering service industry. It has a good intention. The overall dining environment and atmosphere can be regarded as one of the best in the area. Whether it is indoor or outdoor seating, it has a resort style. The space is spacious, the decoration is thoughtful, and the scenery is not bad. Especially at night, the lights are lit, which adds to the atmosphere. (it’s not as easy as it sounds because for one, you have to cross the ayerwaddy river and hike a mountain) Regardless, this pagoda was built by the founder of the Bagan empire itself and the work was continued by the next king of the Empire. The Pagoda truly has a lot of wonders, it is thought to enshrine Buddha’s tooth and bone also. I wish I could write more about this but I am unfortunately not as well versed. However, there are local children there that would love to explain the history and culture to you in your language (they know a lot) for a price as low as $3. I would love for you to support them as this is how they make their livelihood, they also take great photographs! My family and I presented some offerings (2nd pic) and prayed for a while.

| Bagan from a God's Eye View. 🌟 Unfortunately, I couldn't afford the expensive hot air balloon ride in Bagan, so I had to get up early to watch the hot air balloons. 🤣 On the one hand, it was because of the price of over $350, and on the other hand, I was a little worried about the safety factor, so I called a motorcyclist and set off in thick clothes. 🌟 Bagan is known as one of the best places in the world to watch hot air balloons because the hot air balloons here rise with the sun. In the morning light, thousands of pagodas are scattered across the land of Bagan, and colorful hot air balloons rise slowly, creating a spectacular scene. It is recommended to wear brightly colored clothes, which will look beautiful in photos. 🌟 There are four main hot air balloon companies in Bagan: the red Ballom over Bagan, the green Oriental, the yellow Golden Eagle, and the STT company. The hot air balloons of different colors in the sky are quite beautiful.

Address - BAGAN right in the middle of the temples and pagodas. Great location, but clearly not in the city center Ambiance/Facilities - Really calm cause no tourists, facilities are very beautiful and has a great potential to be a beautiful 5* but maybe needs a little maintenance. Highlights - Infinity pool over the temples Avg. Price per Person - at the season we went when Myanmar is still re-opening to tourism 130€/night Rating - 4/5⭐️ The hotel is really amazing in terms of architecture, design and Location. The infinity pool with breathtaking views over the pagodas is definetly a must. It is not located in the town so taxi or e-bike rental is highly recommended. The rooms are spacious and pretty clean but would be have expected more attention to detail for a 5* hotel - although the price paid was very accessible. The diner food options are vaste and qualitative whereas the breakfast have a large selection but no bacon for example that would have much apreciated. The only thing that we were surprised is the fact that staff speak very little English and the conversation can be very very difficult, when you don’t expect in a 5 star tourism hotel to happen - we stayed in a much lower key hotel in Inle lake and staff where absolutely fluent in English…… #historicallandmarks #hotelstay #beautifulhotel #paradise #luxuryhotel #bagan #myanmar
