Gannan is home to Langmu Temple, the "Little Switzerland of the East" that straddles Sichuan and Gansu, Labrang Monastery, one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the world, as well as the stunning Lianbaoyeze and the First Bend of the Yellow River. Our trip to Gannan lasted 7 days. We visited popular attractions as well as hidden gems, covering almost all the highlights of Gannan. The natural and cultural landscapes along the way were breathtaking. Although we only had a few days of good weather, we still felt the trip was worthwhile. Itinerary: July 21–27 July 21: Shanghai–Lanzhou. We took a flight at 1:40 pm and arrived in Lanzhou at around 5 pm. We stayed at Starway Hotel (Lanzhou Xiaoxihu Park Metro Station). For dinner, we went to Ma Laoshi Beef Noodles. The beef was delicious. July 22: Lanzhou–Ganjia Secret Land–Labrang Monastery–Hezuo Attractions: Bajiao City Ruins and Viewing Platform, Baishiya Monastery, Baishiya Karst Cave Ruins, Labrang Monastery. For dinner, we went to Lao Zhejia near the hotel. We stayed at Vienna 3 Best Hotel. July 23: Hezuo–Zagana We set off at 8:30 am. The road was bumpy, but the scenery was beautiful. We traveled along the Rock Road to the fairyland of Zagana. For dinner, we went to Jinkeyuan Restaurant near the inn. We stayed at Zagana Darilinka Inn. July 24: Zagana–Ruoergai Flower Lake–First Bend of the Yellow River–Tangke Attractions: Flower Lake Scenic Area, First Bend of the Yellow River. The First Bend of the Yellow River under the blue sky and white clouds was so beautiful. Every photo we took was like a screensaver. For dinner, we went to Duogeng Tibetan Restaurant. We stayed at Ruoergai Yellow River Residence Tibetan Medicine Bath Homestay. July 25: Tangke–Aba–Lianbaoyeze–Jiuzhi Attractions: Lianbaoyeze Stone Mountain, hiking to Zagaer Lake. Lianbaoyeze was our favorite place on this trip. It was isolated above the clouds at an altitude of 4,520 meters. We had a little altitude sickness. Due to a landslide on the way to Jiuzhi, we had to return to Aba. For dinner, we went to Piaoxiang Sichuan Restaurant opposite the hotel. We stayed at Aba Caesar Hotel. July 26: Jiuzhi–Awancang Wetland–Langmu Temple (Sichuan Temple)–Namo Grand Canyon Attractions: Nyingma Monastery (the largest prayer wheel), Langmu Temple (Sichuan Temple, also known as Geerdi Temple), hiking a short section of Namo Grand Canyon. For dinner, we went to Chongqing Fish House for grilled fish. We stayed at Langmu Temple Yixinju Inn. July 27: Langmu Temple (Gansu Temple, also known as Saichi Temple)–Lanzhou Airport–Shanghai Attractions: Saichi Temple, the last stop of our trip to Gannan. The architecture was stunning. Today was a travel day. We set off at 9 am for Lanzhou Zhongchuan Airport. We flew from Lanzhou to Shanghai and took a chartered car back to Jiaxing. We arrived home safely. Tips: 1. Gannan is located on a plateau, so you may experience altitude sickness during your trip. I had a headache after coming down from Lianbaoyeze, but it went away after taking an ibuprofen. 2. The weather in Gannan is changeable, and the temperature difference between day and night is large. We recommend wearing layers. We also recommend wearing waterproof jackets, pants, and shoes. 3. The UV rays in Gannan are strong, so be sure to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and other sun protection products. 4.
