Hong Kong Financial Museum: A Journey Through Monetary History
The Hong Kong Financial Museum is located within the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, transformed from the former trading hall, and was completed in February 2018.
Highlights of the Visit
• Bei Character Wall: On the right-hand side upon entering, there is a wall featuring Chinese characters with the "贝" (bei) radical, including auspicious ones like "赚" (earn) and "赢" (win), as well as negative ones like "贪" (greed) and "贿" (bribe), symbolizing the unpredictable blessings and curses of money.
• Financial History Exhibits: Displays the development of Hong Kong's financial market, including major events such as the banking crises of the 1960s and 1980s, and the "Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect." It also showcases the history of securities trading in Hong Kong, from the early colonial period in the 19th century to the merger of various exchanges.
• Precious Artifacts: Features items gifted by floor traders who worked in the former trading hall, as well as other finance-related exhibits, such as "National Salvation Bonds" from China's resistance against Japan and commemorative banknotes issued by the Bank of China.
