The New Church is a church in Amsterdam, also known as the Coronation Hall. It is famous for the coronation of Dutch kings and queens since 1815. Now the church has become a local exhibition venue or a venue for organ performances, and no longer holds services. The historical background church is located on the southwest side of Dam Square, next to the Royal Palace of Amsterdam. Built in 1408, due to the increasing population, the old church was not enough, so a second parish church was established. After two fires in 1421 and 1452, the church was almost completely destroyed in a catastrophic fire in 1645. After several repairs, more neo-Gothic elements were added in the reconstruction, and the whole building became the Gothic style seen today. Coronation site Since 1815, the new church has served as the coronation site for the previous kings and queens of the Netherlands. The wedding and coronation ceremony of the current king of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, were held here. Exhibition venue Today the church has become an exhibition venue or a venue for organ performances. Exhibitions with different themes are held in it every year. For specific exhibition information, please pay attention to the official website. In addition, there is a cafe and souvenir shop in the church, where you can rest or buy gifts such as postcards after visiting the exhibition.
