🇸🇬 Camping ideas at The Rail Mall
#campingfun #100WaysOfTravel
During the short September school holidays, it is a great idea to take the children to go camping and day camp is quite in the trend. A great camping itinerary will be the Rail Corridor at Bukit Timah, it is a total of 24km now but you can break it down into a few sectors and complete it over a few days. The chances to encounter wildlife is also high so always remember not to feed them. The meeting and starting point usually at Rail Mall. It is a small shopping mall with many amenities and it is in an outdoor setting. This area also have many wall murals here and sometimes a treasure hunt will start with these murals too. A great place to start camping activities.

A retail strip located at 380 Upper Bukit Timah Rd, Singapore 678040 open daily at 0800-0000 hrs, the nearest MRT Station is Downtown line Hillview ( DT3 ), around 500 metres 8 minutes walk.
The Rail mall is a stone's throw away from the iconic Railway Corridor and Bukit Timah Reserve, just beside Upper Bukit Timah truss bridge.
The single story strip mall that comprises 43 shop units that serve all types of cuisine so this is popular for park hikers, green corridor walkers and mountain bikers for a meet up starting point or rest point. The wall murals on the side look nice.

A morning hike along the newly enhanced central stretch of the Rail Corridor took us from Hillview to King Albert Park through lush natural landscapes. We reached the beautifully restored Bukit Timah railway station approximately 90 minutes later, with the building being converted into a little heritage centre for visitors to learn about its history, as well as additional station signs, token poles, and replicas of railway station wagons placed out front.
Starving by then, we headed into the nearby 1932 Story Cafe for some chow. Originally the Railway Staff Quarters, it has now been repurposed into a café with a rustic & relaxing ambience for visitors to enjoy a timely pitstop.

Hiking the rail corridor
This is the day that I clocked 12km and 30,000 steps within 6 hours hiking the northern rail corridor in Singapore.
I started the hike after breakfast, approximately 10am and ended the hike around 4pm, with muddy shoes, aching knees and flushed cheeks. The hike was easy and manageable as it was mostly walking on flat ground and dirt paths, but the weather was merciless! It was sunny but drizzled half way through and I was caught in the rain. Luckily I had my umbrella to the rescue and managed to continue with the hike.
There were some parts near Kranji that was pure wilderness. The trees were towering and formed a canopy. It was a sight to behold walking into the forest.

Hey all you cool cats and kittens
Who is the Imposter here?Nothing quite like Sunday morning with cats and Coffee.
Being in a cafe where felines run freely and sit wherever they want and telling you who is boss is a weird feeling indeed.
The Cat Cafe located at the Rail Mall gets you up close with all the lovely felines where you can spend your full afternoons catching up with your friends over coffee and some snacks while petting the friendly cats.
Do come earlier around 11am or so to catch the feeding times of the hungry cats chowing down their brunch for the day and after you are done with the coffee and you still feel hungry, Springleaf Prata is not too far away.
