Kuching Citywalk: Encountering the Legacy of Ranee Margaret of Sarawak
#springitinerary
Wandering through Kuching’s Citywalk, I encountered the elegant legacy of Ranee Margaret of Sarawak near the historic Old Court House. The building, a striking remnant of Sarawak’s colonial era, once served as the administrative heart during the Brooke dynasty.
Its British-colonial architecture—arched verandas, timber beams, and whitewashed walls—speaks of an era when Margaret, the Englishwoman who became the first Ranee, shaped Sarawak’s cultural identity. Her presence lingers in curated exhibits and restored facades, where past and present entwine. Citywalk offers not just a scenic stroll but a direct connection to Kuching’s regal and colonial heritage.
