There is also a second venue for Xiaoxue Snow Light: the Hand Palace Line Railway Site.
This part of the Hand Palace Line was built as part of the oldest railway in Hokkaido. It was opened to traffic in 1880 and became the earliest railway in Hokkaido. Originally used as a cargo line for nearby coal mines and seaports, but later because of the growing prosperity of Otaru Station, the Hand Palace line gradually lost its effect. By 1985, the entire line was discontinued. The decommissioned railway line was transformed into a city street garden landscape, planting flowers and plants on both sides, and several sculptures symbolizing the history of Hokkaido Railway. Walking in the summer, it is said that they will meet the lazy cat who is sunbathing. Local residents also like to take a walk on the railway ruins and recall the past of Otaru.
Along the Hand Palace Line, you can walk to Nissintong and Sushi Pass, enjoy the city scenery and experience the history, and you can also take a trip to enjoy the sushi festival of Otaru, which shows the government planning intention. In addition to the annual snow festival, the small glass market will be held here from July 26th to 28th every year.
