Although the mountain is not too high, there are many entrances and hiking routes. I chose to enter from the west gate of Baiyun Mountain and exit from the south gate. The whole journey is about 12K. You can take the main road the whole way, and there are also some shortcuts along the way. There are paid battery-powered vehicles in the scenic area that travel between scenic spots in Baiyun Mountain. There are also many supply points, including convenience stores and restaurants. Baiyun is the iconic mountain in Guangzhou. Baiyun means “White clouds” in Chinese and it’s indeed worthy of its name. You can clim or take cable car to Moxing Peak, its highest point, to have the view of the surrounding. They have different trails for you to try. I came in March and the weather was very pleasant for the hike. The air is so fresh here, no wonder it is called the lung of Guangzhou. Along the way, you can spot local flowers blossomed in springtime too. They do have cable car or buggy service to bring you up to certain levels and you can continue to climb up from there. We recommend to take the cable car up and hike downhill if your time is limited.

Spring comes early in Guangzhou and peach and plum blossoms arrive, appropriately, with Spring Festival. I lived in Guangzhou for three years and I never saw the famous peach garden in Baiyun Mountain 白云山公园 in bloom until I returned for a visit this year. What a pleasant surprise! There were lots of people there but it didn't feel crowded as the peach garden is quite big. Normally access to this part of the park is included in the usual Baiyun Mountain entrance (5RMB) but during the peach blossom season another ticket is required (another 5 kuai); it's well worth the price of admission. In addition to the peach blossoms there are magnolias, bougainvillea and many others. Bring a camera or a picnic and spend a few hours under the pink and white blossoms. The peach grove is roughly in the middle of Baiyun Mountain Park so it will probably take most people an hour to walk there; the east gate near Meihuayuan Metro Station 梅花园地铁站 is the closest, I think (but has a steep stairs-only ascent; the west gate entrance is further but more gradual.) If you're not up to walking there it's possible to take the mini shuttle from the west gate or the top of the cable car. Some parts of the peach garden would not be accessible for those with mobility issues, but the main paths near the gate should be okay. Yesterday and today, I am climbing Baiyun Mountain in Guangzhou. The trail is not difficult, so many elderly people visit this place. It is an easy hiking course that takes about four hours to reach the top. It was really nice to see the wild grasses blooming naturally, welcoming our steps. However, mosquito repellent and an umbrella are a must.
