Included in the Swiss Travel Pass, it felt like a perfect blend of history and value. As we climbed up to the castle, we were excited to discover its well-preserved knight’s hall, fascinating exhibits, and impressive medieval architecture. Reaching the top was an absolute highlight—standing in the tower, we were treated to breathtaking views of Thun’s charming rooftops, the sparkling Lake Thun, and the majestic Alps in the distance. The climb was more than worth it, and the castle’s blend of history and scenery made it an unforgettable stop on our journey.

With its around 42000 inhabitants it is rather small but worth visiting. It is the gateway to excursions to the Bernese alps. Thun Castle is an ancient castle built in 1191 by the Dukes of Zähringen (founders of Bern). It stands prominently on a low hill above the town. You can visit for free with a Swiss Pass. Inside the castle, various collections are displayed, including weapons from different eras and household items. However, one of the highlights is the beautiful view of Thun from the castle. On a clear day, it is said that you can see the peaks of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau lined up above Lake Thun.
