[Saitama Prefecture] "Little Edo Kawagoe" - A town that evokes the Edo period
Kawagoe is located in the southwestern part of Saitama Prefecture.
It is a popular tourist spot that can be accessed in about an hour from the city center, and is still loved by many people because of its streetscape, which is called "Little Edo Kawagoe" ☺️
During the Edo period, it had a deep connection with the Tokugawa Shogunate, and the castle town flourished just like Edo.
The streetscape, which retains the appearance of Edo, including the storehouses of that time, has been designated as a "Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings" by the government, and has also been selected as one of the "100 Beautiful Historical Landscapes of Japan."
The "Bell of Time" is a symbol of "Little Edo Kawagoe" 🔔
The current bell tower is the fourth one, rebuilt in 1894, but the structure itself is said to be exactly the same as it was in the Edo period!
Even now, the bells still ring four times a day at 6:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00,
and the town of Koedo is ringing 🥸
Many other traditional buildings remain,
and there are rows of old-fashioned, long-established shops,
so it was nice to walk around while feeling like I had traveled back in time ✌️
*There were more restaurants than I expected,
so you might have trouble finding a place to have lunch 😅

[Access 🚃🚌]
About 30 minutes from Ikebukuro Station on the Tobu Tojo Line to Kawagoe Station
*From Kawagoe Station, there is a bus called the Koedo Loop Bus that travels around the tourist attractions in Kawagoe City,
so I recommend taking that bus to get around!
*I also recommend purchasing a one-day pass, such as the Kawagoe Retro Ticket, to go sightseeing!
