The fair lasts for two weeks from late April to early May and showcases around three million tulips of all colors and varieties. From Takaoka Station or Shin-Takaoka Station, take the JR Johana Line to Tonami Station (approx 20 minutes). During the duration of the fair, free shuttle buses run frequently between the station and the tulip park. There are also small museums and playground for children in the park.

On the last day of Golden Week, I went to the Tonami Tulip Fair in Toyama Prefecture. Because I entered at 3 p.m., which was quite late, I was able to find a parking spot smoothly even during Golden Week, and I went without purchasing a ticket in advance, but I was able to enter without any problems. The parking lot is far from the venue, but there are several parking lots, so if you don't choose a parking spot, it seems like you won't have to worry about parking. Parking fees start from 500 yen. The venue was larger than I expected, and there were various tulip corners, as well as flowers such as moss phlox, nemophila, and viola. You can purchase flowers and tulip bulbs, and there is also a souvenir shop selling Toyama specialties. I was looking around a garden of white tulips and encounter a unique tulip that has a half red half white colors. There is a photo and print service, restaurant, and souvenir shop.

#springblossom We think it could be very crowded if we don't go early but the organizers make it very neatly. Almost all type of tulips you could find here. Parking just near by. After point 1 and 11, You could enjoy some ice-cream before going further, the price is very competitive and they serve free cold water on hot days which is great. For lunch, we suggest to bring a tablecloth for laying and frying noodle for food. The noodle includes egg, meat, vegetables and with good price, you could try some fresh strawberry fruit hể too. Don't forget to bring a hat. That was a fantastic place for tulip hanami.

#thingstodo Perfect place to go in spring! So nice to see so many colors after a long snowy winter in Hokuriku. They have Tonami Tulip Fair from late April to early May. The park is quite large. There were food stalls in some areas. An observation tower just opened and you will get to see the entire tulip field. Tulip cultivation started in the Taisho period in Toyama prefecture from a mere 10 tulip bulbs. It currently boasts the highest shipping quantity of tulip bulbs in Japan. These “Toyama tulips” sprawl across 7 hectares in the city park and have become a symbol of spring in Toyama. I went here during my first spring in Japan, in 2018. The nearest JR station the JR Johana Line, Tonami Station. There are free shuttle buses that run between the park and station during the fair period. If you’re a foreigner, remember to let the ticketing counter know as you get to receive free goodies and the tickets are also sold at a cheaper price. The park was huge with a good variety of flowers and there are also food stores and a huge playground for children to play. Perfect for a family trip. I wish I can visit more parks in 2024
