[2025 Toyama Attraction] Travel Guide for Toyama City Hall observation tower (Updated Mar)

Located in the Hokuriku region, Toyama is the second largest city. Although it is not as famous as its neighbor Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture, the city faces Toyama Bay and is backed by the Tateyama Mountain Range. With its excellent location and comfortable atmosphere with fewer tourists, it is a great place for a city walk. Without the hustle and bustle of Tokyo or Osaka, the entire city is very laid-back. I would like to recommend a few spots for a city walk in Toyama City. The first recommended spot is the observation deck on the top floor of Toyama City Hall. This mini observation deck, located on the top floor of City Hall, offers a panoramic view of the Tateyama Mountain Range. In winter, the peaks of the Tateyama Mountains are covered with snow, making the whole view spectacular. You can also feel the direct impact of the city at the foot of the snowy mountains in winter. Directly below the observation deck is the site park of Toyama Castle. Although only a part of the ruins remains, you can still feel the grand scale of the castle in the past. Now it is mainly used as a park and is a good place for a stroll. Next, you can walk to the nearby streets and experience the Toyama Light Rail. As an important transportation system in Toyama City, the Toyama Light Rail has been operating for over a hundred years and is an indispensable part of the lives of Toyama citizens. There are still some old-fashioned trams with a strong last-century style running on the streets. Why not take a classic old tram, travel through Toyama City, and feel the collision of ancient and modern times? Take the tram through Toyama Station and head north to reach the famous Fugan Canal Kansui Park. This park was transformed from a part of the original Fugan Canal. The whole park is very spacious and is perfect for walking and relaxing. It is also a venue for many sports enthusiasts. There are many people running in the park, and it is also a place for nearby residents to walk their dogs. You can meet all kinds of cute dogs along the way. There is also a stone bridge with two bridge towers in the park. Climbing to the top, you can enjoy the city scenery and overlook the distant mountains and the overall landscape of the park. In a corner of the park, there is a Starbucks. This Starbucks is rated as one of the most beautiful Starbucks in the world because it is located by the lake and has a very nice view. You can buy a cup of coffee and dessert here, facing the peaceful park scenery, how pleasant! If you have the opportunity to come to Toyama, you can enjoy a leisurely, relaxing, and lazy slow time here.

Places to view the Tateyama Mountains : 1) Toyama City Hall Observation Tower. It's free!! 2) Kurehayama Park Observatory/Park. It's also free! But need to drive up to the park. 3) Amaharashi Coast. #thingstodo This place was very nice in terms of getting a birds eye view of the city. On clear days the mountains can be seen in the background which is really nice. Also the entry is free of charge. It is a recommended place if someone is visiting Toyama City.It was free entry, however there’s nothing much up there… completed the viewing within 8 mins.Not crowded as well during weekdays. Take the lift to the observation level (T).

#2024wish It's quite easy to walk past the entrance to the Toyama City Office without noticing what lies behind the facade, as I did on my 1st night in Toyama. Walking down the street on the on the opposite side, however, you cannot fail to notice the modernist Observation Tower rising behind. The Observation Tower is open until 9pm during the Summer months, so don't be put off by the appearance of the City Office being closed and in semi-darkness, just go through Reception and head towards the back of the building and there is an elevator for the Observation Tower tucked away on your left. I visited after 7pm and appeared to be the only person in the building, apart from a Security Guard in Reception. An interesting diversion at dusk .... and it's free!
